Hi this is my first thread and paintball scenario game.
I have a few questions about the Giant Big Game.
1.Is it worth it to by fancy guns and rocket launchers?
2.What is the intensity level at the GBG. Is it hardcore all day?
3.How can I be realy included and helpful for my team?
4.What type of unit should I be to have the most fun?

1. Games are worth whatever you and your budget decide it is worth. The amount of fun you have is in no way tied to what kind of marker you shoot.
2. It's fun. All day. It is as hardcore as you want it to be. There are some intense firefights, if that isn't your thing, then don't go to the front of said firefight. The game is big enough that you can pretty much make it what you want it to be.
3. Work with your teammates to eliminate everyone in your path. Find a group of players and just jump in with them. It's a friendly field.
4. You can have an absolute blast as a regular ol' player. Special units are cool to try, but don't think you need a special position to have a blast.
Just show up and go with the flow. Fun will find you.

2.What is the intensity level at the GBG. Is it hardcore all day?

4.What type of unit should I be to have the most fun?
1. depends on your definition of fancy guns. I don't know if you consider electric guns fancy, or decked out milsim guns fancy. Neither are necessary to play a fun game, but electric guns are good because of the increased rate of fire you have. And milsim guns just add a cool factor ranging from +1 to +10.:D
2. At big games I play pretty intensely, not with quite with the intensity I have in a tournament, but with more intensity than I would play an open game with. And everyone's intensity varies. Some people are hardcore full out playing and others screw around and just have fun; do whatever suits you best.
3. Ask your team general what you can do if you want to be really helpfull. I personally never go on missions, I just try to clear the field for the people who do go on missions.
4. Units they don't really have unless your looking at something like Oklahoma DDay. There are special roles at some big games, but you pretty much have to be randomly picked to get them.
Remember, just play your style, hook up with another group of players there, and have funberet:)

1.Is it worth it to by fancy guns and rocket launchers? That can only be decided upon by you and you alone. It's worth it if you enjoy it and believe it is worth the money. I recommend trying at least one GBG before deciding whether or not it is "worth it" to you, just to be on the fiscally conservative side. Just come out and play and have fun.
2.What is the intensity level at the GBG. Is it hardcore all day? It comes and goes, but it's pretty crazy most of the day. The final battle is interesting.
3.How can I be realy included and helpful for my team? Volunteer for stuff, ask the general what he needs done. Run with a scenario team on your side to either take locations/fulfill missions. The best way to help is to ask what needs to be done on game day, on the field. The general can't tell you now what he needs you to do because he won't know now -- he'll know then. Every time you reinsert, come to the HQ and ask for directions. That's perhaps the best way to be a benefit to the team.
If a group grabs you before you get to HQ and they're doing something the general assigned, then that's good enough - go with them.
4.What type of unit should I be to have the most fun? Good old basic infantry. The special roles (aside from medic) tend to have greater responsibility and are usually better for more experienced players. I'd watch what they do in-game if this is your first time before jumping onboard to try one of those roles.

Great advice above.
Be prepared to walk a lot! There lots of good-sized hills to climb. Bring lots of water, and consider a vest with hydration bladder.

Hunt for the Cure, monthly big games (see Splat Tag's website for end of the month big games), OK D-Day...
got a long list of events to go to. Most are at Splat Tag, some are not.

I wouldn't recommend taking on a mission of significant importance with just a group of players new to GBG -- you need to mix a little of everyone in (new players to experienced veterans) to make the GBG work out in your team's favor.

If you really want to help your side, talk to the general of the game before hand. They always need help running missions and getting tasks accomplished. This is where I have alot of my fun. Volunteers are usually needed for special stuff like medics and the like. Which is fun, but regular infantry lends itself to more fun in my opinion.
Water, Water, Water!!!
Splattag has some brutal terrain especially in the back areas and being in good shape really really helps alot!
Scenario games are only as intense as you want them to be! Some feel better taking a more organizational role, calling out positions and helping to direct, where others run missions and some just and do what they feel like doing. Its all up to you.

Thank you. That was the best tip ive had. I will think about what kind of things I would like to do. Helping a large group pinned down by flanking the opponent is my ppersonal favorite. When the enemy has one your teams in a ditch, you can help them the most by taking out out the supressors who will probably have their back to you. Nothing scares me more then getting shot from 2+ sides.

Hi this is my first thread and paintball scenario game.
I have a few questions about the Giant Big Game
1.Is it worth it to by fancy guns and rocket launchers?.it is always "worth it to buy better guns. to by them if you cant really afford it no its not. you can do work with a rental gun at gbg. the launchers do add the fun of hunting tanks and bunkers. but its a big buy
2.What is the intensity level at the GBG. Is it hardcore all day?really its all levels all day. meaning 250 acers is a big place if you dont like the fight your in pull back and swing around. the more hardcore fights happen on the big trails. the road less traveled feilds usually provide a less intence conflickt
3.How can I be realy included and helpful for my team?make sure you try to stay with the group and talk to people with radios because they are usually in contact with the generals. fallow the story line and objectives
4.What type of unit should I be to have the most fun?what ever comes naturly to you. every one whas fun if they are doing what they do best. specifit units are usually detemend by the generals apone earning them. pretty much every one is a grunt.

I think its worth it to buy a reliable marker, nothing ruins a long day of play more for me then having problems with my gear, if you pick up a decent electronic gun (pmr, mini, up'd ion, dp gun, or maybe even an old ego) thats easy to deal with you wont have gear problems and you will ahve more fun... I think thats worth quite a bit. as far as launchers go, they are heavy (generally) and require you to play a certain role (and a target for the tanks)... I would just play first and see how it goes before transitioning off into other things like that.

Fancy guns may not be worth it but it is well worth the money to have a good set of goggles. If you can't see your going to have a bad time. Try on a different brands find a nice pair that fit and have thermal or antifog coating, fans work well.

Launchers are not necessary for this event. Your general would have to buy one to activate it anyways. A great event for launchers is the Hunt for the Cure.
As for other advice, one of the best purchases I made after a year and a half of playing at Splat Tag was a decent pair of cleats. The terrain ranges from very slick with steep hills or root city. I see at least five people trip over roots every time that I play there.

4.What type of unit should I be to have the most fun?
1. No, let the special teams take care of full auto and the nerf stuff (aka rockets/m203s) Use whatever you have.
2. The intensity level at the GBG is defenitly high all day. There will always be a heated battle somewhere, and usually there are 2 or 3 to pick from. Just remember, you have to be able to run, because your running everywhere all the time haha.
3. Depends on what team you mean by, if you are bringing a few friends, step up and be the commander of your group, that will be the best for everyone. Consider joining with a well known team, like wild bunch or MMPT (my team haha) we always accept new players that want to run with us. And especially at GBG. Just remember to listen to what we say if your going with us tongue:)
4. I'm assuming like a position? (commander, frontman, backman, midman?)
Its whatever you like, and what your gun is. Frontman would be alot of running, alot of getting shot at, and alot of getting hit. You'll want a fast gun, and some good boots cause its usually muddy at the GBG. Midman/Backman are technically the same thing in scenario, its less intense, but ambushes (and of course tanks) sneak up all the time, and usually the midmen are the first to get hit since they like to hit the broad side. I don't really have any tips for the midmen, except you will be expected to step up and be the frontman if they start getting beat hard.
**The tank** Watch out for paintball tanks, last year I believe it was Wild Bunch's. It destroyed the unit I was working with, we were taking Tippy tower and it rolled down the road and just decimated all the frontmen, we had to hide in the urban assault building for 10 minutes until it left. It would've been great to have a rocket out there, but for a new player, its not worth spending the money just yet. GET A LOT OF PAINT :)

Well last year i made about 20 of them and used them at the GBG. they were made of latex tubing and had some kind of paintball grenade/mine fill. Its almost the exact same thing as somthething you would buy, so im sure they are legal but darrin would have the final word
Everyone can shoot.

I did that last year at the GBG. i was a medic, and well, and one of the craziest ones there was. I litterally sprinted, dove, rolled, jumped, slid, and pretty much anything else humanly possible to get to my team members, nommater were they were and how much fire they were taking(and i was in most of the major battles). I came by the general's tent several hours later, still alive and a medic, and all badger(the general for my team) could do was sit there stunned and say holy s*** your still alive!?! lol

We can't help that we were born on the superior side tongue:)
Tips: 1. Water!
2. A good pair of goggles, if not, then bring several cheap masks cuz you WILL fog up at some point
3. Ammo, don't think you'll play hopperball at this game cuz you won't
:fighting0011:
4. If you hear a tank coming (and you WILL hear it) drop into thick cover and don't move. I'm a tank gunner and I love when people dance around with their heads cut off as soon as I get on a main trail. Easy pickins'
tank5:)
5. If a tank on your side comes through a trail, ralley some people and get behind it. A tank is like a mobile bunker that kills so take advantage of it. Don't just wait for it to die and then decide to do something.
6. Move from cover to cover. Don't blindly run into the open....someone will be waiting....recon:)
7. Don't do what many new people do and just hide in bases, especially towards the back of the field. If youre at the front, by all means get in a base and raise the flag if its a firebase but otherwise there really is no advantage to sitting in a base that has no point value. And most experienced teams can clear a base in a matter of minutes so its not a "safe" spot. :scared0012:
8. If youre hit, raise your marker high and yell "out" don't fiddle with your barrel sleeve and then get miffed when you keep getting shot. I know I shoot people until I see a hand go up. So it'll save you some pain to call it right away. Make sure it actually breaks tho tongue:)
9. Bring a barrel swab. One you can ram down the barrel preferably. Even with good paint you can get a barrel break and then you won't be able to hit anything if your life depended on it.
10. If you see a helicoptor special unit coming your way (it will be a guy wearing a special shirt and he'll have little windmills on his shoulders) RUN! Do NOT shoot at him unless you have a LAW. He will eat you.
Urban Ninja
06-02-2009, 04:01 PM
Ok, so I'm not the most experienced player ever, but I've been to a GBG or two.
1. Water is a MUST!!! Camlepak, waterbottle, water in a spare pod, whatever, heat exhaustion is a bad thing, and can easily occur if you don't stay hydrated.
2. Be careful walking down roads, I tend to stay to the sides near some cover, simply because when I first started playing, I got lit up a few too many times down the middle of the path. And when you do take cover, make sure you arent accidentally exposed to the enemies, the front line isn't really a line, its more of a giant squiggle, so its possible that you dive into a bunker and have your back to an enemy unit.
3. Tanks, Helos, and terminators are PURE EVIL if they're not on your side. Terminators are a little easier, but the other two are real buggers. My advice (only because i've seen people do this, and it worked really well) is to hide. Do not draw any attention to yourself from those two stronger units, or your dead meat. Wait until they pass, which should be relatively quickly, as they are just mowing people down, and ambush the people following it. Once, 1 guy that waited for our helo to pass started shootinh at us and bogged us down real bad, cause we thought we were safe. BIG MISTAKE.
4. Unless you have nice goggles, they will fog, so either bring spares, or some means to rid yourself of fog.
5. Have a break every now and then. Catch your breath, catch up on the status of the battle, find out where you're needed, get a drink, eat a snack, somthing like that.
6. Always check to make sure towers are on your side before walking past them. It sucks to be in what you believe to be your territory feeling safe and then realizing that tower is the enemy... actually, this goes for everything. Make sure people are on your side, always check the armbands. Sometimes enemies break through the line... and you run into them, so don't think they're your buddies all the time...
7. Don't shoot at the Midwest Alliance, cause they are the greatest. Simply fact my friend.
8. Whatever else you do, whether you run around with no gun, or are on the front lines at all times, make sure you have fun, cause that is what it's all about.
See you out there!
