I may need some of your guys help on this one as im sure these are the most used guns out of all of us.

Tippmann phone number: (260) 749-6022
Tippmann parts: http://www.tippmannparts.com/

Tippmann 98 custom
Stock weight: around 3 lbs
Length: 19" with stock barrel
Threads: Tippmann
Gas: Air or CO2. High pressure
Air efficiency: 1000 shots from a 68/45 on average, or around 1000 shots from a 20 oz tank.
Speed: around 8 bps stock. More with an egrip.
Screw charts (http://www.pbnation.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=546330)

The tippmann 98 is amazingly reliable. you could beat it, throw it into the lake, fetch it a day later and roll it down the grand canyon and it still might work. However, most of us dont want to do that and would prefer our guns in a good working condition. Here is a step by step on taking apart the 98:

Step 1) Unscrew your main body screws. This includes the ones at the back, above the trigger, the one in the foregrip, and the one by the front site and the button that unhinges the feedneck.

Step 2) Unscrew the ASA. This is the air source adapter and its where you screw the tank into. Take out the back piece.

Step 3) Life the left side (left side if your holding it like your shooting it) off to reveal the internals. If you have never taking apart a 98 make sure to look at where everything is.

Step 4) take the bolt and rear bolt out. Lube any o-rings. You can use a lube like Sleek or hater sauce, or an oil like tippmann oil or eclipse gun oil. Whipe down any slime or grime that is in there. The ball detent always likes to get dirty so dont forget to give that a wipe down.

Step 5) re-assemble any parts you have taking out. Make sure the button that unhinges the feedneck is correctly in place. Make sure the front and rear bolt are correctly connect with the connecting rod. Make sure your spring and spring guide fit right into the back piece. The left half of the body should slide back on fairly easy, dont force it. If you have to force it something is not in right.

Step 6) go shoot people

Tippmann A5
Weight: 3.4 lbs stock
Length: 24" with stock barrel
Threads: Tippmann
Gas: Air or CO2. High pressure only
Air efficiency: A little under 1000 shots from a 20 oz, same with a 68/45.
Speed: 15 bps stock, possibly more with an egrip but unrealistic.

Assembly/dissasembly

Step 1) Take out the four pushpins. Now unscrew your main body screws. This includes the ones at the back, above the trigger, the one in the foregrip, and the one that connects the cyclone feed to the body. Disconnect the hose that attaches the cyclone feed.

Step 2) Unscrew the ASA. This is the air source adapter and its where you screw the tank into. Remove the back piece.

Step 3) Life the left side (left side if your holding it like your shooting it) off to reveal the internals. If you have never taking apart an A5 make sure to look at where everything is.

Step 4) take the bolt and rear bolt out. Lube any o-rings. You can use a lube like Sleek or hater sauce, or an oil like tippmann oil or eclipse gun oil. Wipe down any slime or grime that is in there. The ball detent always likes to get dirty so dont forget to give that a wipe down.

Step 5) re-assemble any parts you have taking out. The left half of the body should slide back on fairly easy, dont force it. If you have to force it something is not in right. Make sure the cyclone feed is clean inside so it does not spread diseased debri around to your future gelatinous spheres.

more to come, getting my stuff together

~Quick egrip problem that some have encountered!~

If you notice your gun firing when its not supposed to your rear bolt is wearing down from not fully coming to a stop when firing fast. You will need a new rear bolt!

Please, feel free to add more, i can add it to these original posts.

I nor any one else on this forum is responsible for any damage you do to your marker for following our advice.

Not to be picky but you mispelled Lift (you had life) in step three of both posts and floating in the second.
Thanks for the animation of the cyclone feed, very helpful.

Forgot the most important A5 lesson:

"Washer first, then oring. The tombstone holds them in place." -A5OG saying.

If you don't get it and you own an A5, you will in a matter of time.

Any body got a solution to the cyclone feeder system on the X-7? whenever I turn mine up to over about 6 BPS the balls get flung around in the hopper and won't load so I end up firing about 0 BPS till I reload it. Anyone know if Tippmann has done anything about this yet? I would really like to beable to keep my settings at about 20 BPS.

first of all, the X7 isnt going to shoot 20 bps, no matter where you set it and no matter what Tippmann claims. Ive seen readings, think more like 15 bps, its too tough on the internals, shooting 20 is not good for it. There have been many problems with the X7 cyclone but i havnt seen any solutions other than buying internals from a different company, i beleive techt makes some nice internals and techt is a very nice company.

Disassemble, clean and oil. Check for main bolt wear and replace the main spring. Almost a guaranteed fix

FYI-
Maybe I was niave, but the connection for the power tube is some sort of cup seal and not interchangable with the classic custom 98. bangh:)

Contacted Tippmann about the mistake and they did right by me. :D

thanks dave. we will look for an extra spring laying around and see what we can do.

Yep, usually when the velocity gets low on tippmanns its a worn spring. Change that and you should be back up to speed in no time....

I got the Maddog spring kit for my X7. I can now run lower pressure with the same velocity. We set mine for 30 bps to see what it would do, it performed well but the air usage was hopper and a about a half for one 68/4500 !!! crazy!! It was a fun 10 seconds though!! Upon taking it apart I noticed the grease in the cyclone vortex was completely broken down and had to be repacked.
I also have the New Designz power tube and bolt, Maddog spring kit, TechT Ultimate cyclone upgrade, TechT squishy paddles(must have) and E-grip.
