I typed one of these a while ago on sniperproductions.com but i didnt see one here so i thought i would post it. Im not sure how right the dates are but they are close, i had a lot of variations (1 - 3 years) on some things but they are generally close:

If we all pitch in, i bet we can come up with a pretty good list of important inventions, dates, games, and other procedings that have shaped our sport. Everyone help out! If its note worthy i will add it to the first post here.

History of paintball (Its a work in progress as im still gathering facts)

1970: Crossman patents the first painball gun, the 707, use for marking trees and cattle.

1981: A few friends went into a New Hampshire woods and played a lil game of paintball for the first time ever. Using Daisy 007 markers the group of 12 had to go through the woods and grab a flag from each base. The first person with all flags (12 flags, one for each person) and to get out alive wins. Richie White (who, if i remember correctly, was either a lumber jack or seasoned turkey hunter) captured all 12 flags and got out with our firing a single shot!

1982: Caleb Strong opens the first commercial field in Rochester, New York. PMI comes into the business. Bob Gurnsey produces paintball packages and starts selling them to people who want to play. It was originally called the national survival game (NSG).

1983: The first ever NSG (paintball) tournament is held. The Taxi drivers from hell won, a Canadian team. Ironmen formed. Pumps become the norm (over bolt actions).

1984: Constant air comes onto the scene, with mixed emotions. Back check valves are created. Harnesses, cleaning kits, and extenders come onto the scene.

1985: Tippmann introduces the SMG-60-the first ever full auto gun.

1986: First ever non NSG tourny is held by Paul Fogal (skirmish) and Jerry Braun (NXL) called the air pistol open. Budd Orr invents the sniper autococker.

1988: First ever speedball game played in souther cali. IPPA formed.

1989: Jim lively holds first ever successful world cup and trade show.

1990: Last ever NSG tourny ever held.

1991: Bad Company wins the first international open (5-man), sponsored by magnum paintballs. The Ammo box is invented, being the first ever hooper like contraption that holds around 60 balls. Budd Orr invents the barrel plug, and helps the IPPA form the 300 fps rule.

1992: The NPPL is formed, a league by the players, for the players. Jim lively reduces average team size from 15 man to 10 man.

1993: NPPL segregates Pros from Ams.

1994: ESPN runs clips of the DC cup. WARPIG becomes the first ever paintball only sight on the net.

1995: Shoebox shocker is invented! Tipmmann FA comes out.

2002: The PSP and the NPPL split after world cup

2007: Oliver Lang, at the time considered the best paintball in the world, leaves his friends and long time team to pursue a $100,000 a year contract with dye.

2008: Pacific paintball, the company that controlled the NPPL and Paintball 2 xtremes magazine, files for bankruptcy.

I have not really been paying attention as much as i used to and just recently found this on my computer when i was deleting some old stuff and i though i would throw it up here.

Paintball began as an official sport in 1980. There were ideas that lead up to the evolution of the sport since the 1950's. Farmer boys used paintball handguns to mark trees that needed to be cut down. They also marked cows that needed to be slaughtered .Since the first paintball game was played in 1980, that's when most people agree paintball began as a sport.

I think everyone can agree the "first" game of paintball prolly wasn't the first...

I'm sure the first paintball gun didn't even make it to the second day of existence before it shot someone. This is based off my experiences with human nature; if it has an engine we'll race it, if it shoots something we'll shoot someone with it.

The game back in 81 was the first organized, recorded event that went on to become what we all know and love :D

I played paintball on ESPN in Florida back in 1994? The whole tournament was played just for ESPN. The finals (top 8 teams) were taped and later aired on ESPN2.

One day I will but up the footage my team Terminators vs All A's 2.
We ripped a lot of teams, including the All A's 2 to get to the finals but we did not play well in our last game, one won that was taped. I had a very bad game and was taken out in the first minute or two.

The player that hangs the flag at the end of the game clearing wiped a direct hit off of his goggle. The refs and the promoter of the tournament knew about it during the game. Even on tape while the player is walking to hand the flag the sound drops off because there was a big argument on the side lines. The audience was yelling and swearing at the promoter. You can still almost make out one the tape someone yelling "he's hit in the F**ing goggle Jerry!"

Plus the other team was shooting crazy hot. The funny part about ESPN show is every one know it but did not want to crew up the tapping. All through the game the announcer and people he interviews keeps saying "the long ball" - "they could taken out by the long ball".

I could go on all day about that event but I am still glad I was there and played in it.

I need to either buy one of the special hoppers for my rapide, or rig up a feedneck with PVC. I shot it today and noticed that they have horrible air efficiency; I got less than 20 shots out of the 12gram it before it was shooting at a very noticably lower fps.

I did a presentation on the history of paintball my senior year:)

Splat masters are semi-auto. They have a plastic body (which is actually suprisingly sturdy) and well, here is a picture of mine, well not mine mine, but i have the same thing, minus the hopper

bolt actions actually and i beleive a lot of those old guns shoot terrible to what we have today... even though advancements like that in the quality of paintballs have made them better.

the only reason i would want a KP 1 or KP 2 would be to resell it and get some cooler guns, ive never been a fan of the wood on them. However, a sheridan P69 on the other hand would be a gun i would LOVE to get if i had some extra cash.
