Good day to everyone,
This is my first post to try and help y'all out a whee bit with the playing. By no means do I claim expertise, I just claim that over 9 years I've learned/noticed a few things. And, as the spirit of this part of the forum is improvement I hope to do that for everyone/someone!
What I'm talking about with profile and 50/50 gunfights is how you appear to the person you're firing upon, as well as how to make 1 on 1 head to head battles lean more in your favor so you can bump your wins from 50% to almost 90% of the time.
The first step is considering your profile, when you start shooting at someone your goal should be minimized profile. Now this part is a whee bit tricky with milsim markers and A5's, this being because of the general bulk associated with them. But, I'll try and throw a few tips in for just that specifically. I'll start talking based on a typical speedball setup, vertical fed marker, hopper and air tank on the marker. Most of the time you'll be firing around an obstacle, coming out from the left or right. In these instances you want to fire with whatever hand matches the side your coming out; right side of tree fires with right hand, left side of tree fire with left hand. Teach yourself ambidexterity for just this very case, it takes some time but is greatly worth it. What you want to do is limit how much of your body and gear leaves the cover of your tree or what have you for cover. Ideally the only things you'll be exposing are; less then half your mask (need one eye to aim), your marker and hopper, and your hands. Pay very special attention to making sure that your elbow does not stick out (chicken wing), keep it tucked in close to your body. The general way to practice your form is to stand in front of a full length mirror and practice leaning out and looking at what you can see of yourself, it should be just a sliver. Also, pay attention that your feet aren't sticking out either side of your cover.
It'll take some practice to get the correct balance, and shooting with your off-hand but it will be greatly worth the results. Now lets talk about coming out over top of cover. When coming up top you've got to be insanely quick about it as it generally exposes you to more enemy fire. It can be greatly worth it though, as being stuck coming out of two sides increases your predictability, which we all know leads to your elimination quicker. When coming up over the top, make it so your barrel is the highest point of the marker over the cover. Be quick, pay attention to who's shooting at you, take your shot, and GET BACK DOWN! Tilting your gun about 30degrees to the left or right can help shrink your profile, but tilt to much or your hopper may not feed.
Now for bulkier Milsim set ups, remote lines and things of that nature you may run into a few problems. First you can't easily switch between left and right hands, in which case you just have to do the best you can in situations. Craftiness and unique solutions come with experience and ingenuity.
The issue I have with the A5 marker (big reason I try to not use one) is that the marker makes your profile about 3-4 inches wider then it needs to be when coming out the right side of a tree. Be aware of this A5 users, as I know that I can shoot your hopper and take you out in that split second before your head clears the tree and you get the chance to aim, I do it all the time. One thing for A5's though is they have a slightly shorter profile because of the hopper setup for when they come up over a bunker.
That is what I have for you today on profile, work on it as making yourself a smaller target is never a bad thing.
Now for those pesky lil 50/50 gunfights we all get into. They exist everywhere even when its really a 50 on 50 fight you'll find yourself in a head to head engagement with someone who's between you and your next objective. The big thing thats gonna help you win this fight is to be the dominant person in the game of cat and mouse where you both exchange putting the other person behind there cover. Keep your head out unless you're going to get hit, don't go in unless you see it coming for the whites of your eyes! Keep yourself tucked in tight and stay zeroed in on their cover, watch for patterns of where they pop out. If you know where they're going keep paint going there until they come out and meet it. Now if they're as tricky as you and they keep switching up where they come out you've got to throw paint all over there target, but don't throw solid streams you'll waste your valuable paint! Wait until you think they'll come out, throw a few rounds at the right side, a few at the left, a few over top; wherever you feel they'll be coming out. You've got to switch it up yourself or they'll surprise you by coming out somewhere new and pop you in the face because you have stayed in the same spot.
Be quick in what you do, be flexible in your game, and put the hurt on them when they slip up.
Hope you guys enjoyed, post up comments/questions/whatnots and I'll throw back what I got.
