View Full Version : Rochester Area Woodsball League

Hart's Paintball was talking to Cutstep (Carson) and he mentioned that we should try to set up a League for woodsball players near the Rochester area.

He was thinking it would just be a group of teams and paintballers who live near the Rochester area (I would imagine in a 40ish mile radius) to band together to make the League.

Local Rogue Fields (which will have to be approved of before hand) will sign up to hold games on the League's schedule for the year. Games will be held twice a month (could be changed due to a larger interest).

Games will be anything from scenarios to simple elimination and capture the flag. We are up for anything. This League's purpose is to get a larger group together to play some woodsball for fun. We would most likely split up teams and people who come to even up games, though we may have some games/scenarios keeping teams together.

Anyways if anyone/ any teams are in the Rochester Area and would be interested let me know. Especially teams or players that have their own Rogue field that could be used for games. Hart's Paintball will be happy to host games at their rogue field in Hammond (about 15 miles North of Rochester). Some pictures and a map of the field are posted at our website: www.hartspaintball.com.

Also any suggestions, comments, and questions would be much appreciated!

EDIT: CLARIFYING ABOUT THE LEAGUE

We are still in the works! We are still trying to put the pieces together. I will post on here when I have more details! To clear up any confusion here is what I had in mind for the "League" which I think will be renamed later, because of the confusion.

What I had in mind was more of an organization for players around the Rochester area that could provide different fields (through teams/players who have their own fields), dates (like saturday or sunday games to better fit players schedules) so players could have larger game turn-outs and play at different fields around the area. So Teams or Players who have fields can set up a game to host on whatever day they want and can network it on a central website so other players by Rochester can come down and play. Basically the goal is to get more players active in our area, larger turnouts, an opportunity to play at diverse fields, and to get to the know people and teams in our areas. (And to even provide carpools to big events people are going to). It's an open play kind of thing. Though we can keep teams playing on the same side, as well.

We are always happy to have more people involved in our organization if they are interested. You can always reach me on here via private message if you are by Rochester and are interested in networking for a larger turnout. I have not met anyone around our area yet that isn't great to play with.

harts field is fun to play on and they are laid back and a good bunch of guys. I think if we had three fields around Rochester, say harts in Hammond and Bunker Busters field in Pine Island and maybe woodland security would be interested in Stewartville. The plan is to have it be BYOE (everything) and maybe anyone who has a scuba could bring it filled.

I'm in and the rest of the team sounded like they wanted to as well. you can add our field to the list as well.

welcome and great to see you made it onto the forums tony. I look forward to bringing the rest of the team out to your field. I had a great time out there at your last game. I like the trench that runs down the field the best, You got me good twice because I didn't notice you hiding in it.

Actually We were trying to get one going last year but with new sponsors we ended up focusing on big events. I have talked with Andy at Bunkar Busters about starting an SPPL style league , but after attending the SPPL Afilliate tourney at splatt tag. I'm not sure I like the rule format. We are open to anything. We are only allowed one day a month for this league. We have team practice the opposing week. We play every other week all Summer. We are setting our schedule up shortly. call me at 1-507-271-3859. We have a squad of 15 dihard,10 casual players.

SirHart

3 fields sounds like a good plan. It'll be nice to try out some different fields.

Hart's: Hammond
Bunker Buster's: Pine Island
Woodland's: Stewertville

And like Cutstep said it is BYOE(verything). Though Hart's Paintball does have two 3000 pound scuba tanks we fill but those, only last about 8 people for most of the day.

Schedule: We will certainly plan the schedule so Woodland Security can make it to one of the games a month. We all know how budget and time constraints are, otherwise we'd play ALL the time. I have you number Krutsie and I will remember to call you when we straighten things out more. ALSO we need to consider any of the big games/events everyone is going to so we can schedule around them. We are not in a hurry to set a schedule yet (since it is only December) but it would be nice to get one in place well before the "season" starts. When would you guys care for the twice a month season to start? Or all year around? I know at Hart's Paintball we usually play twice a month in from May to August. Hold one in Novemeber (wknd after Thanksgiving), one in January and also went to Hinckly last year, and went up to the Jungle Rumble in April last year. Any suggestions for a schedule will be very helpful!

Bunker Buster and Cutstep,
Thanks for coming out! It was nice to have 2 more people, especially one's we've never played against to come out and play. Cutstep, I hope you got your jersey back already? I'm sure Curtis has dropped that off for you. Buster Bunker, yes the trench is a huge asset for our field. Noisy as beat heck and no real cover if someone's looking down it, but quick moving and well covered to those perpendicular to it. Just wait till we're not wearing blaze (cause of hunting season) and the grass and trees bud!

We are still doing improvements on our field. The back quadrant needs bunkers there and the trench has a ton of fallen trees that need to be cleared out. But we will get that done in early spring I hope.

Any suggestions for schedule and/or game types, post them on here

Right now the main events Woodland Security will be attending is 1. "Hunt for the cure" 2. Giant big game(splat tag) Thats it so far. Our guys prefer to play on Sundays, but are open to switching days to Saturday once in a while.
Team Kanoha from st. Paul said they would be interested in travelling to be in this kind of tourney. Contact Jimy in this Forum.

SirHart

Sundays are perfect. Curtis Hart (Co-Captain and field manager) works road construction for Rochester and works Mon-Sat most of the time. He does a lot of work on our field, so I'm glad Sundays work best. Unless anyone else has a huge problem with Sundays?

Woodland Security Schedule so far
Hunt for the Cure: Sunday, May 3
Giant Big Game: Saturday, June 6th
---
What wknds will you guys (Woodland Security and everyone else) be practicing on? 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month or 2nd and 4th? Cause with these events so far the I think the 1st and the 3rd would work best if you only want to play twice a month?

If all the teams in our League (Bunker Busters, Woodland Security, Hart's Paintball, and any other's interested) would post their schedules up in this forum that would be very helpful to making a League schedule. ALSO if you are a team like Kanoha, who is out of our area that would be interested in playing, we would love to have your schedules as well to give you the best chances at making it to the most games.

Krutsie, I have PM'ed Jimy about the League. And told him that them coming down will be a good time and we will be happy to have them. Yet asof now if they have a field, we will not be extending a venue that far so everyone has to travel that far.

Hi guys,

Just received an invite. Sorry if I'm intruding in your thread. The team basically can travel anywhere to play in the metro area. We were really intersted in playing a few games with Woodland Security. But none the less. We still get to play with them at splat tag when we attend over there.

We don't have our own field. But we are sponsor by a shop who owns a couple of fields. They consist of trench fields, speedball, urban, and our main field woodsball.

We are a team that plays a divers game. Broken up into two groups. A woodsball team, speed ball, and urban team as one.

We're happy that you guys have invited us and given a chance to play with you guys.

Feel free to post in here anytime Jimy. If you want your team's schedule to be taken into consideration when the League schedule is made, just post it up here whenever you can. I think we would like to have everyone's up by the middle of January so we can make the schedule and move forward from there. We would love to make sure that you guys can comedown and play as much as you want.

keep in mind too that this is not tourney ball, what we wanted to do with this is just have a bit of organized play in the area where we could get together and have fun..... twenty on twenty one game eight teams of five the next, whatever anyone thinks up. The day after thanksgiving we did capture the flag with a reinsert every ten minutes and then center flag for a bit and some good old capture the flag so its really low key for fun paintball. I played in the sppl tournament and its fun but thats a whole differnt thing, thsi wouldnt be team against team for the most part, although some games I sure would be like that. I think as far as other teams coming down (or individual players) the more the merrier, although I dont own any of the fields so if anyone has a capacity that we need to cut it off then we will have to deal with that (in my line of work we call too many people a positive problem ;))

anyway, maybe its something we should have a short get to know everyone meeting and talk about schedule and how to go about this

just some thoughts ;)

thanks

we can possibly have some team members meet up with each other. Go out and grab something to eat and chit chat over things.

SirHart

Thanks for publicly clarifying that Cutstep. League is a loosely used term, more of a gathering of woodsballers in the area to have some fun and get larger turn outs and play more. It's good to get to know some local players, maybe we'll all hit up a BIG event at Splat Tag sometime. It'd be sweet to showup with 50-60 guys we all know and get to shoot each other up.

Maybe change the "name" to Rochester Woodsball League of Players or Rochester League of Woodsballers? Any suggestions?

As for a "field capacity" I'm sure we could find ways to make/alter games to accommodate everyone. Unless we start getting a LARGE turnout then we can always split the groups and go to 2 different Venues (fields). And I definitely agree with you, the more the merrier. And when I say "Teams" I mean anyone who has the gear to come play and can make it. Any individuals are MORE encouraged to come so they have people to play with. This League is to better Woodsballers in our area, not exclude them. I'm sure these individuals can even carpool with others in their area to get to the field.

And yes a get-to-know each other sounds great. We can just pick somewhere to eat and bring our team schedules to make the League schedule and/OR Hart's Paintball is holding a Winter Game on Saturday Jan. 3rd (check the calendar for more details) and we can play till dark and talk afterwards in our HEATED applaus:) shop. Let me know what everyone thinks? I'm good either way, we would just need to set a date to go eat sometime?

I would like to stay as a team as much as possible. we do have two units,Lima and Alpha. So we could seperate those if we have to. We are actually planning on not having two units next season to get everyone used to playing together.

I like the idea of this league but it sounds like it would be more setup for the single player. A organized group of players (Association or Oranization) has been attempted in the past (S.M.P.A.)
We would be interested in more team play also

SirHart
12-18-2008, 11:14 AM
Since Woodland Security will only be able to make it once a month anyways, We could make that once a month a scenario/team kinda thing 75% of the time? With maybe adding other individuals on the teams for the day so they can know how it feels. Or have everyone take on a certain team? just ideas?

What do you think CutStep and Bunker Busters?

Krutsie
12-18-2008, 12:02 PM
sounds good. I'll have more of our schedule in stone after our Jan 10th Christmas Party.
Note: Woodland Security ussually doesn't play in the Winter.

cutstep
12-18-2008, 12:11 PM
I think I may have misstated my thoughts a bit. I just meant that this is not going to be a competitive thing. If you guys want to play as one team and the rest of us against you thats fine or whatever as long as we are all having fun, I was just saying that we dont have to limit ourselves to any format, we can make it up as we go along.

SirHart
12-18-2008, 01:01 PM
Ah. Yeah I must have misread that! That sounds much better, I think that teams should be able to play together or split up how they wish. If we have enough numbers we could always slant the amount of players on each side to make it even when everyone else takes on a team. I'm sure everyone is here to make things fair and have a good time, so we should be able to figure out ways to keep teams together for the most part and the games exciting and even.

Also if anyone has any ideas for possible game types or scenarios, write them down and we will go over them when we meet. Sometime after the 10th so Woodland Security will have their schedule. Any ideas?

Also for scenarios/games: Hart's Paintball has a dozen or so home-made trip-landmines (they don't use paint, just noise), a bazooka w/ a scope (made from an old marker), 2 checkered Flags, 2 "TNT" props, and 4 pie tins (Painted White w/ Red and Silver Lettering "Alpha, Charlie, Foxtrot, and a bullseye) that we can use as "Targets" that when hit, they destroy the target.

Its all good Cutstep. The sad thing in all this.We are doing this because no one can afford to play at Local fields(Rochester area). Our Squad would Play at deferent fields like Run and Gun, Zumbro Valley paintball,Splatt paintball in Austin,Skyline,We would have been even open to trying Speed ball fields to mix it up. They are way to expensive.(We played at Back80(one of our sponcers) regularilly because we had sponcer Perks) If these companies would just allow cheaper rates we wouldn't have to organize such a group. but you know what.they wont. 75-100 bucks a case for cheap paint, hmmm . Its a no brainer

Look at Darrin up at splatt Tag. He's in it for the paintball player and the beter good of the sport,"BYOP,resonable rates on paint and entrance fee's" We'll spend the money travelling to just play paintball and not feel like we were robbed.

We also Have trip mines and 2 nerf vortex grenade Launchers.

The sad thing in all this.We are doing this because no one can afford to play at Local fields(Rochester area).
^^Definitely agree there! And not only the prices, but the fields aren't anything past what we can do ourselves, the turnouts are terrible, and they don't hold any Events/scenarios (just speedball tourneys). I don't think they realize 80% of the woodsballers out there are looking for scenarios and events (like a CTF tourney). Splat tag does have it right, players first. Take care of them and you will get a bigger turn out, listen to them and you can give them what they want and still make a profit. Maybe if we get a large enough group together we can band together and demand some local fields to put up cheaper rates and/or some events. Because if we do get one to do an event and use our League players to give a HUGE boost to it's turnout, they will hold more of them.

the advantage of the commercial fields is that you dont have to do anything but play, you dont have to worry about having air and paint ahead of time and stuff like that.... the thing the local fields is that they cater mostly to rental players and groups and that just fine, personally I dont like playig against rental players because it can be intimidating and deter them from coming back (they need a few games under their belt before they play with seasoned players I have found).... Im not saying that Im some monster awesome tourny baller but you want to ease people into paintball to get them comfortable....

on a sidenote, do run and gun and ZV have regular players? I havent met anyone who plays regularly at those fields and skyline is just speedball which is fun but you dont see a lot of them in the woods.... yet ;)

Bunker Busters
12-18-2008, 04:42 PM
as far as format we don't care what it is, how ever it would be nice to play as a team every once and a while. we don't have our schedule set yet because we are waiting for some of the fields to list their big games for the year first. Would it be possible to get a few of the games on Saturdays we have some players that can't make Sunday games.

Krutsie
12-18-2008, 04:52 PM
there is another group from Blooming Prairie I know of. The Riley Bunch, they just purchased 10 acres with farm buildings , using it all for paintball. there is also the Chester guys but they ...well lets just say they play paintball to relax from the week activities , Consumption and Paintball doesn't Mix. Good guys tho.

SirHart
12-18-2008, 05:31 PM
Ah yes, this is a consumption free league. Safety is a huge priority.

You should get a spokesperson from the Riley Bunch on here. If they are willing to travel (It is 40 miles West from Rochester) and everyone else is willing to, then I think it would be fun to play w/ them and have them in our league. And as a 4th venue/field. But it is up to everyone (firstly them!).

So far Woodland Security and Hart's Paintball prefer Sundays but I'm sure we can put some Saturday games in there as well. I would hate to exclude players. I don't think that Hart's Paintball will host too many of the Saturday games though, because Curtis Hart is our big event coordinator and works most Saturdays but we do want everyone to have a chance to play at our field, so we can hold some.

Right now for format I was thinking we should get a schedule set first and where we are playing what weeks and then when they come up we can all put some input into what we want to do (though I think the venue home team should make the final decision), or just wing it unless it's a new game or a scenario. My thoughts anyways?

Alright, thanks for the tentative schedule. I'm sure we will wait till after the 10th to set a league schedule so you have all of them finalized but it does help for everyone else to sorta set their schedules as well. Hart's Paintball should have a set schedule up soon as well. I just have to get back from school and re-look at the events available this year and meet w/ my team.

I will get our schedule up soon. Our team is split up into two groups. The 5 of us out of 12 members plays speed ball and the others play woods and urban. I'll speak to the other leads to see what he thinks about all of this. The only thing I see or propose a problem is if our tourney dates are the same as the your games.

It sounds good Jimmy. And I think we're gunna meet sometime in Rochester somewhere and talk about the League, I still don't know when. We have to set a date. And I'm sure we can find a way to work around your events.

I will certainly let you and everyone else who has contacted me about this know when I have updates. As of now I am trying to scrape together and get a little more organized before we chat again. I will be sending out a message to everyone who is interested (who has contacted me) for a group chat on the new chat feature "Splatchat" for when everyone is open to have a large groupchat about woodsball around here. ((Then we won't have any travel issues/expenses and have less time constraints)). By Monday I should have one sent out asking what times work best for everyone...

From further thinking and after talking with people; I think that the only thing anyone is really looking for at this point is a schedule. I’ve combined Hart’s Paintball’s, Bunker Buster’s, and Woodland Security’s schedules to come up with a balanced schedule the best I could. All of these games are on Sundays (as of now) because it seemed to work best for the largest amount of people and because if no one else can host these days Hart’s Paintball should be able to hold it at our course. ((Of course if/when Bunker Buster or WS hosts any open events and feels that Saturday works better; let me know and we will make a change on the schedule…please just let me know as soon as possible like a month in advanced so people can get work off)). Anyways here is the schedule. Right now the events set through June 21st are “set in stone” already and will not be changed.

May 3rd -Hunt for the Cure ((Splat Tag))

May 24th -Hold League ((Hart’s House))

Sat. June 6th -Giant Big Game ((Splat Tag))
June 21st -Hold League ((Hart’s House))

July 19th -Hold League ((WS maybe?))

August 2nd -Hold League ((anyone to host?))
August 16th -Hold League ((anyone to host?))
August 30th -Hold League ((anyone to host?))

October 25th -Hold League…Halloween game? ((anyone to host?)) <Sunday before Halloween

November 29th -Hold League…Tomahawk Tussle 2 ((Hart’s House)) <Sunday after Thanksgiving

January 3rd -Hold League…Winter Pb ((Hart’s House, unless someone else wants to hold it)) <Or the 10th…To Be Determined

Basically anyone who can/wants to host a game just let me know and we will set it up and make it happen. All the league has done is set the schedule, everything else is up to the hosting field (like rules, gun hits count or not, auto or shot limits, game types, set up, etc, just BE SAFE- I should be at EVERY event to assure safety). If anyone needs anything though feel free to contact me for input.

Also to make it easier to organize people, I ask that people register at www.Hartspaintball.com as a member, and when registering, check the boxes that say subscribe to: “Big Events” AND “Woodsball League”. This will assure that you will get any updates we have about the League and any Big Events (if you want to tag along or find a ride up/carpool). Also if you are bringing people who aren’t registered, there will be a link to the forums that you can let us know. There will also be a carpooling link to the forums as well. We have tried the best we can to make this convenient, easy, fun, inclusive and economical while getting a larger turnout! (If you have any ideas to make this better, let me know).

If anyone has any comments, questions, or want to host an event; please feel free to message me.
