Trying to get my Dad to play with me sometimes and he wants a "sniper" rifle. Flatlines are about as sniper as you can get, but I picked up this stuff at DDay and think it looks pretty sweet now.

I made a smaller hopper (not pictured) with a side elbow and a pod cover. It holds 50-55 rounds, otherwise I can use the elbow with the stock hopper if I want more ammo. And yes, the bipod IS electrical taped to the barrel, and there are zip ties under that.

Took the bipod off for the time being, and started camoflaging it...it'll be a great intimidation factor against new players =) (I will forget to mention to them that it only holds 50 paintballs at a time)

Lol, I actually don't know, but I'll measure it just for you guys......23"
Yep, kinda long. And having a PM6 I usually frown on such oversized beasts, but I think it just looks awesome!
I'm going to use it, along with the 50 round hopper, at a paintball event my church youth group is having; I figure it would be a good time to test it, there will be a lot of new players and I don't want to just have a slaughter fest with the PM6. I'm decking it out with homemade ghille stuff and might play the part of the sit back and wait for them to come to me "sniper". Which is totally the opposite of the way I usually play, but I'll give it a shot for the fun of it.

EDIT: And it IS really accurate, which suprised me, I never thought that barrel length mattered that much. But it does seem to loose some velocity compared to my Stiffi, I probably going to have to turn up the velocity when I'm using the 23" barrel.

Accuracy wise, barrel length doesn't matter, as long as it's 8-10 inches or so.

It loses velocity because of the significantly more friction in the barrel (23" inches versus 14" - that's another 9" of barrel to drag against), and yes, turning up the velocity will compensate (but contrary to myth, it won't use more air, it's the same "charge" in a Tippmann either direction, the velocity screw just directs how much goes to the shot and how much goes to recocking the gun)

Yeah I studied up on that a bit after I got it. The article I read said that longer barrels don't use up more air on Tippmanns, but on a Spyder they would. Something to do with how the velocity is adjusted.

I used to think that about barrel length, but I don't know now...the 23" barrel is SIGNIFICANTLY more accurate than the stock barrel.

I know the guy who wrote that, I was one of the people he talked to about it. The basic concept is that there are three main ways for adjusting velocity: the Tippmann style way (also BTs, Tac-5, and a few others), the spring tension method (higher tension on spring = greater velocity), and the regulator way (different pressures = different velocities).

It was concluded that the spring-tension method and the regulator method could use more air with a longer barrel, but they would only be a few shots, not very significant for most cases.

I used to think that about barrel length, but I don't know now...the 23" barrel is SIGNIFICANTLY more accurate than the stock barrel.

You're comparing against a stock barrel -- there's a whole lot of other factors besides length. Smoothness of the inside, bore/paint match (ideal is close to same size, but have the bore just a little bigger, say a .688 bore for .685-.686 paint), and the consistency of the gun (not a barrel factor, but a gun that can shoot +/- 3 FPS is going to be more accurate than a gun shooting +/- 20, given all other factors being equal)

One of these days I really should start my own "mythbusting" videos -- it could reshape some views people have about some guns/gear.

This is just great...and I knew this would happen too. So I played paintball with my church youth group yesterday; I used this A-5 for the first two rounds of the game, did ok. sniper:)

Then I decided to pull out my PM6 for a while, so I loaned this A-5 to a friend and that round we came up against each other and guess where I shot him??? IN THE FREAKIN SCOPE!!!! NO, NOT ON THE OUTSIDE, BUT RIGHT ON THE LENS...SQUARE ON THE LENS....needless to say, that was fun to clean.:(

I just can't believe it...I knew it was bound to happen, but only the third round of action it had ever seen, and I SHOT IT!

>.> Thats cause the stock barrel is horrible, most any aftermarket barrel is better then the stock. I dont rememeber the exact number, but I was once told the stock barrel has a bore of something like a .694 or .695.

300a:)

That's huge! It's a wonder the ball goes forward at all.

Also, consider the quality on the inside. It's not going to be all that finely tuned, there's bound to be some roughness (even if it can't be readily seen) on the inside of a stock barrel.

Played For A Year With A Stock A-5barrel. Bought An A-5 Rifled Barrel And Acuracy Improved. Bought An A-5 Sniper Barrel, Not A Lot Of Improvement. Bought A Sly Barrel With A-5 Adapters, Incredible! Seems That Every Box Of Balls Are Different Size And With 4 Adapters The Sly Can Handle Everything. Bought Two Cases Of Paint For An Event Supposedly From The Same Lot And Used A Different Adapter For Each Box.
