View Full Version : Giant Big Game XIV June 7
Both teams and both Generals did a great job this year!!
Every where I went there a was a crazy battles going on!!
I learned so much from this game and how the Generals played some of the field and used some of the rules.
I took a lot of notes today and will be changing next June GIANT BIG GAMES field layout and rules a little.
WOW the last 20 minutes!! I hope all of the pictures turnout today :)
All the high winds Friday set us back a little this morning but we caught up fast from what I saw once I got back from a drive out to White Bear Lake to pick up the Ref/Terminator/Helicopter shirts that came in late.
Next year my goal is to play at least half of the day. :)
At the end of the game I forgot to thanks Fastsigns in Blaine, MN!!!!!!
The Greatest signs people ever, and I have been buying signs for over 20 years.
Thanks for all the great signs they added so much to the events!!

It's 8:17 on Sunday morning, and I'm still feeling tired from yesterday's game. Thank you to my blue team for letting me take a break to take care of my migraine. I forget who all stepped up to general for me, but I believe it was Dragoon and Thalion, plus one more guy. They completed two missions while I was gone, giving our team a ton of money. Excellent.
Both Dead Eye and I compared notes before our end speeches, and we learned that neither one of us shot a single round yesterday. All that fighting came from the armies to battle for those three bases. I can't even imagine how many cases of paint that comes out to be.
Thanks again to those that came, from other states and other countries. I don't know if you guys knew this, but we had two Canadians that traveled over 9 hours to drive to this game. Darrin's game celebrity status is growing like mad. I wouldn't be surprised that if it keeps growing like it does, that the GBG may one day become one of the premier scenario games, much like OK D-Day, Skirmish, EMR or Wayne Dollack. And you thought you had pre-game jitters now, Darrin... lol
Thanks again, everyone, for a wonderful memory. Time to go back to bed! beret:)

Hard fought game yesterday!
Great fighting all day from both sides.
Stand up play as well, I didn't see any playing on or cheating.
We had a difficult time getting the red team motivated in the morning.
Had a TON of friendly fire issues early on as well!
Thank you Darrin for having it on a Saturday.
Thank you DeadEye for generalling & letting me play.
First time in 2 years I've been able to play in this event.

First I have to say THANK YOU. This was my first time at Splat Tag, first time in a game this large, and first time walking that far in a single day! haha
The game play was awesome. I actually had contact with my General (Badger) which I never thought would happen with so many people. That's why when he asked who would volunteer for a mission, I was the first to raise my hand and volunteer my group of 5. I was excited to do my part. However, the mission never came, and he told us that "yellow, green, and purple" had to be had. I dedicated the rest of my last hour or so trying to take yellow base which was being very well, I might add. After being taken out, I watched the happenings going on by the Two Towers and what a battle that was raging there! I am positive great times were had by all.
I do, however, suggest some sort of amtrack, or rail system to get a person back to the insertion point. WOOF! Hmmmm, maybe a diet and exercise will come in handy for next year. haha
Thanks again to all staff. For the most part I saw nothing but good reffing, kind of loose, but great job no less. I can't imagine trying to co-ordinate that many people all at once.
You have a new return customer, and that's a fact!

great day on saturday. camping out friday was pretty nice until about 1:45am when it started to rain. and it was in that moment that i realized my tent had a hole in it. after rolling around throughout the night i woke up to find 2 puddles of water in my tent. awesome!:( then in the morning before the game started it looked to be a long wet day due to the seemingless never-ending clouds. luckily, as i was on my long walk to the start of the game i looked up and saw blue sky on the horizon.
after that moment my whole day picked up and was rolling great. blue team was fighting hard and kicking butt in the morning and we kept it up but nonetheless red stepped up their game and mounted a comeback which eventually led their victory.:( but you know what? i'm not really even that bummed. both generals badger and dead eye were absolutely great. everyone was fighting hard and it seemed like everyone had fun. I know i did.
great day!!! great job to the players, the refs, all the splat tag workers, and ofcourse, DARRIN!!!:):):)

Great day, great game, an all around great time. I really never care who wins or loses because I always have fun, but with that being said here is my excuse for why blue lost. Right away in the morning we were kicking a** and controlling the field very well. But after 4 or 5 trips up that hill to reinsert everybody starting getting tired. moral started to drop and we lost control of the field. But oh well. I had a kick a** time and can't wait until the next one.

Thanks to all that came out yesterday. It's the players who make games like these... the people that come out and deal with the weather, humidity, the bugs, the ebb and flow of the game, and still play their hearts out. I tip my hat too everyone that came out to play.
Badger... what can I say? Very well played. You and Blue team were a tough nut to crack, and in all honesty, I had no idea that we'd end up winning... I walked off the field mentally preparing a congratulations speech to you and your team. You folks played hard and fair. I couldn't have asked for worthier opponents. Salute!
Red Team... I'm very proud to have had everyone who was willing to play with an untested commander. You did everything that was asked of you, and never complained. Thanks for hanging in there, esppecially after the morning we had, and never quitting. As I said at the briefing at the insertion point... Pride and Ego make the world go round, and you folks almost made it spin off it's axis. Thanks for the intel you provided, and the intestinal fortitude to pull it off.
A special thank you to my team, Wild Bunch. Thanks for having my back and playing hard. I couldn't ask for a better band of brothers. An extra special thank you to Chunk, my XO... couldn't have done it without you, brother. Thanks for running the radios and allowing me to get out on the field to gather intel, as well as as being a sounding board for me as well as offering opinions and great ideas.
A special thanks as well to our team sponsors...
Splat Tag: Darrin... what a great game. Thanks for having it. You, Brian, and your entire refing staff were top notch. Thanks!
Northern Command Paintball... or is it Northern Paintball Command?...:scared0012:laughing:) LT runs a great shop and keeps us in the gear we need. Thanks Theo...
Fast Signs Blaine: For all your sign and vinyl needs, and also for being great team mates.
Family Friendly Chiropractic: Pain relief for old , decrepit, gimped up paintball players, located in Coon Rapids. Thanks for your support Dean.
Sierra Ink: for all your screen printing needs.
APS: Thanks for providing us with the greatest paintball markers on the planet.
Again, very well played by everyone that stepped on the field. Thanks for making it interesting.

What a great game this year!!!!
Badger was a great general, I attempted to give him intel over the radio and as I passed by general tent back in from insertion every time.
The RED team gave a hard fight. There was a point in morning at the yellow base facing north towards RED insertion there is a small cover area (w/ plywood fencing). There is a path leading up a hill and one down a hill. I was held up in that area for 10 + minutes fighting of RED from both paths. I went through 1000+ rounds when I finally got shot the RED team cheered. I was out of paint and air at that point (I only had a pistol left....). That was one of many great battles that I and my fellow team mates fought in that day.
Thanks to all for such a great giant big game this year!!! I know it will be great again next year.

A quick reffing veiw point:
I don't have any complaints accept that I'm extremely sore and brusied, not as bad as some of those tower guys though my hat off to those guys. The only "major" problem was gunshots but that was only after the first hour. People would keep playing with gun hits but I didn't get mad at them becuase some of them might play at places where those don't count.
Funny things: Early on when blue first took Tippmann and Evil Towers in the 2nd hour I saw one guy using the "No shooting" sign. I wish I had my camera there when he was doing that.
When Blue had taken both Tippmann and Evil towers and they had pushed all the way to red tree line so the Warfare players in the towers(i'm correct they were the team that played in the towers?) were so bored that they started lobbing paint at each other for fun.
Close tag: I was standing over at Python tower when a bunch of blue came up on it from purple base and Charlie 2. There was a tree about 10ft from the bottom of the tower and a blue had some how snuck right there and the tower guys hadn't noticed him and he waited there for about 5min until he finally made a dash for it but on of the tower guys was up and noticed him and nailed him when the guys was atleast a foot away fromt he tower.
The first 5hr or so I didn't have a actual fancy Ref Jersey which led to some unneeded hits but I totally undstand some misunderstandings. I was wearing only my Hunt for the Cure white T-Shirt so I would stick out a little; and a 3-pod pack, with gatorade and some "lost and found" pods, which didn't help my cause.

I was out of paint and air at that point
That's why you always leave one shot for yourself
Well another GBG passes, My ninth in a row, so I don't need to say much other than another Great Job done by all those people who put these on. And a Thank-You to the Skies for not dumping on us or blowing our camps into the next county. I think that through the years what I have noticed most was, the over all group of Players that spend the day battling over field possesion and points on the field, are becomming good friends. And that is what Paintball needs, to succeed. So to all my friends (700+) thanks for helping me have another Great time at GBGXIV./AKA

Question: How come in the afternoon hours the guy that was in Diablo tower, left? We went back to see where it was at as far as who controled it, and there was no one home!?

I would like to thank each and every single player who showed up.I saw nothing but stand up paintball all day. This is probably one of my favorite GBGs ever. bow:)bow:)bow:)bow:)
Around 5pm the players in the Python and Diablo towers received intel that both GIANT Teams were heading to attack the Tippmann and Evil tower so they packed up and went to help in the fun. :)

i forget to toss out my favorite moment on the day. me and my friend bob went out to flank a couple guys by purple base (i think) and so we headed into the woods up a small hill. i started in and once i was about 10ft into the woods i started to get unloaded on. so i flattened out on my back and bob went farther in. i would quickly sit up and take a couple shots and then be on my back once they returned fire. bob and i took out around 13-15, (not easy to remember.) but it was seriously the funnest battle i was apart of the whole day. it wasn't big but it was sure fun.:)
Badger we have it.

It was a fun day for me as well! A highlight for me was the first and last hours of the day. In the last hour red had a apache "fly" right past the towers and towards the urban field. All the blue started to run away so I snuck around and waited in the center urban house until the chopper was close by and I hit him in the chest with a nerf rocket. The blues cheered and it was a good time!
Thanks for the hard work referees and game staff, Look forward to GBG in the fall!

Again, sorry for all the questions. This was my first time at Splat Tag, and I am just wanting to make sure I am fully prepared for next year.
My question now, is, when we went to sign in for the Friday night game (5 of us, and we were all pre-registered) they told us it was another $20 to play the night game. We had print-outs from the rules and info from the site, and it said the following:
Night Game Friday, June 6 from 7pm to 11pm. Before the GBG Saturday.
A Special Pump and Pistol game will be held on Sunday after the Giant Big Game on Saturday.
Players that pay Entry into the GBG receive free Entry into all 3 events if they want.
We don't believe in arguing with staff because it makes us look like whiners, so we just went back to the camper and partied. Does anyone know what the deal was with that?

over all i think we handled the problems in a timely manner. the play was amazing to watch 3rd person. i think the hardest call i made all day was calling a terminator out for wipeing his google on his jerey covering his white square in paint entirely. other than that it was an amazing game. and weekend. but i am very very tired and sore.applaus:)

For the Night Game it was $20 for players that were NOT playing in the Giant Big Game the next day.
And anyone camping Friday night is ment to register/check-in Friday night.

Apache was me..
My buddy was terminator.. (Spesh)
I was completely shot that day running errands for Badger.. I didn't feel like running into Wild Bunch to close out my day.. I still have paint scars from last year on my arms from them... LOL...
Apache was fun... people still shot at me.. Puppy d@mn near took my head off with a rocket... my only complaint with that is that the harness is WAY to uncomfortable... I hope somebody can come up with a solution to that..
I had a fantastic time out there. I thought the teams were evenly matched, the staff and refs did a fantastic job. Special note to Rotter for fixing the HPA fill station so quickly (THANK YOU)
Was Farmland out there on Saturday? I didn't see them out there...
Thanks D for such a great event..

There were some farmlanders out there. From my understanding Damage Inc was helping to officiate GBG.
Edgar which is the breadbasket? Thanks for the compliment by the way :) I was just happy to finally "find" a chopper to shoot at after lugging the launcher around all day. laughing:)
Next time I hope the General of Aces High puts me on the same team as the rest of Aces High. deshelmet:)

i gotta say the game was awesome the only thing that sucked was that it was soooooooo f&^%ing hot out to ware my ghillie suit but me and my buddy did till the last couple of hours. i think we were the only ones with an actual ghillie suit... :fighting0011:
It was a good battle. Thanks (especially) Splat Tag and my opfor for putting up a hell of a fight.
I know you guys don't realy need to hear it, but here was the moment that made my day :)
It was maybe mid game, Blue was dominating, but Red was now just coming back, they took tippy tower and the tower next to it, I remember right before red had ambushed Badger up at the base. Well, I really favored the Tippy tower cause I had alot of intense battles before it was taken. So I decided to take it back naturally.
Well I got there, hung around the urban course for a few, then decided to crawl up through the long grass (gave me COD4 memories ;)) and everytime we'd get far mayhem(i think)'s tank rolled by and blazed us out. It finally pushed us back to the urban course for a long while but got bored and left.
The real action started when Red started seaping down the long grass above the urban course off to the side of tippy tower. Blue was advancing slowly with me as point, and we had a gang on the tape taking out a few. Me and a few brave soldiers started leap frogging through the spiral bunkers, and onto the railroad ties were we got the heaviest fire from the tower (speedball slides from bunker to bunker really killed me jeebs) we finally thinned it down to 1 gunner left up in the tower, and I made a mad dash to touch the tower. As luck would have it I came out of the charge untouched and eliminated the tower.
I would like to thank my brave comrades who boldly charged forward into unseen opfor :)
