I haven't seen a thread dedicated to paint here yet, and I think it would benefit us all to share our experiences.
At Hunt for the Cure '08, I shot some Diablo "Formula 13". It was pretty cheap and recommended by the guys at Northside as being good cold-weather paint. It was a bit dimpled and didn't fly all that well, but it broke perfectly on impact and I had no barrel breaks all day.
I'm playing again in a private game this weekend, and since it'll be warm-ish, I may go back to tried-and-true Premium... or I may go the cheap route and buy Anarchy again.
What have you been shooting? How'd it shoot? Was it expensive?

I've shot a lot of Nelson Hot Spot in the past.
The main advantage is it's cheap. It's not ideal accuracy-wise, but it'll perform within acceptable limits. I rarely have barrel breaks, and the balls don't have large variance in the same batch (however, remeasure every case if you're using a barrel kit -- don't assume the next batch will be like the last).
Hot Spot tends to vary on a batch to batch basis how well it handles brush. I've seen some batches that ran right through it, others that can't get through it at all.
The other dowside is that they tend to bounce (or so I've been told, I can't actually give this a fair test). My response to this would be to aim for a hardpoint if at all possible (something I'd be trying to do anyways, I just prefer hard targets because they're less likely to bounce regardless of paint).
I like OK D-Day's Draxxus paint, but I can't afford that kind of price consistantly.

White Box is my friend. But then again, so is the cheapest thing you find, when you can put a case of paint in the air in just a few mins.
I did win a case of Evil last summer at Splat Tag. I been using it strictly on my Super Stocker because of the normal case of paint. I got to say, it shoots incredibly well out the SS. The bright yellow shell stands out like a sore thumb in the woods when you let a shot rip, and its easy to see where it goes/hits. (well at least for me it is)

I use premium. decent price i suppose. 50 a case aint to bad. but it is great paint. works great but can act up a little on colder days.

Ive been shooting tippmann werks (yellow) for the past few cases..heard mixed reviews about it being dimpled in the case, which i have not had that happen in the 3 cases i bought so far...
price wasnt bad either 45 for 2k...
main thing for accuracy is paint to barrel matcing...IE barrel is .069 try to find paint jsut under that...its pretty amazing how different companies who make balls have differernt dimension balls...

Absolutely. Nothing I've shot recently will work reliably in my PGP; the Nelson stuff was all ~.681, and the Formula 13 was ~.684.
Maybe I'll just break down and have Palmer do his wedgits.

Nothing but WPN paintballs go through my gun whether its the cheaper Weapons Grade or the high end which is called Elixir. To my knowledge St. Croix Paintball is one of the only spots you can pick it up.Amazing paint I have shot it for over a year, same greatness every bag.

I shot that wpn elixir at the hunt for the cure game and had a lot of problems with it breaking in my mini. It shot great out of the pro-carbine. It was kinda chilly that morning so that might have something to do with it. So I got some of that formula 13 and that seemed like pretty good paint to me. Last year I shot a lot of Xball bronze which is great but a little spendy to shoot every game. My favorite paint is MonsterBall!!!! not really, its not even worth $30 to me. That hot spot stuff does have a better shape but from my time using them I saw more bouncers than breakers and when they did break the fill was so watery that you could not even tell it broke. I've been shot in the mask with that stuff and could still see fine right through the fill.
Monster Balls
I shot these when i first started and was not impressed some of them were so big it make my cyclone feed jam.
Hotspot
these paint balls do a good job for there price of 30 a case, i shot alot of this paint last season near the end only problem with it is some of the fills are quiet poor and very hard to see when it breaks
DXS Blaze
when i first got this paint i opened the case and it looked like a bunch of golf balls. i thought it was just bad luck but getting many of these cases all golf balls! turned my barrel into a paint sprayer within the first 5 shots.
Evil
This paint is the best i have seen but the price is a factor.. i shot it at the resident evil game last year and it was great! bright fill and shell!
Nightmare
This paint was pretty decent for the price i paid 42 dollars a case and i ordered 5 cases at that time. had a few breaks but i think that was because of the weather or possible how i stored them.
Visible Impact
I been shooting this paint this season and for 38 a case you couldnt go wrong i have yet to have a barrel break. my first case i got had broken balls but out of the 5-6 cases i have purchased only 1 bag was like that, and that bag shot fine to after i cleaned them up :)
Nice review there Goat!;)
For me its whats Cheap! Ya I know I'm cheap, but in order to play alot of Paintball you need to have paint. I have the same problems as most who uses the stuff but I have gotten used to it. When I do spring for a good grade of paint I conserve and hate when its gone.
When we had our own field we played every Sat. and Sun. for 5 years and needed alot of paint. So I and another player hooked up with Nelson Paintball, they gave us great deals and let us sample all of their paint.
Well anyway I too am looking for that all purpose, economy approved, non bounce, marker friendly, paint 'em good paint./AKA

I concur! I took some out to Combat Paintball a few weeks ago. It was rainy and cold and folks were chopping like made...Not one for me. I was using the WEAPONS GRADE and loved it. Orange shell and fill, nice marking.:scared0012:

I shot Impact, RCS Combat 68(the cases looks like a ammo box), Scorch, Big ball, Empire engage(I believe), premiums, hot shot. I'll post a "review" later I'm just sqashed for time. THe best I would say is the Engage.
I got 2 cases of the Combat last year at the GBGXI raffel and those shot ok for sitting in the basement for about 2months.
I also got a case of the Engage on the Splat tag Free day becuase it was my bday(sept 23), that shot nice but my gun was acting up terriblly so i couldn't get a suficent taste for the paint.
Big Balls: As the title states they are big. When I got 500rds I was extremely surprised when i shot them becuase I was shooting as straight as a paintball could I had no dips, curves, or climbers. So I got these the next time around and was all excited but then they apperently where to small for the barrel so I just got a lucky batch the first time.
Scorch/Impact: I put them together becuase impact replaced scorch. Well this paint is a medium bore I don't have a measure so i'm not sure but my J&J is some what larger than .696bore. It has a awsome fill nice and bright but the shell is slightly weak becuase it broke in my eggy not my marker.
Premiums: Good quallity paint I got a bag of this at a private game in Special Forces. It shot good the shell is from what I remember a little weeker than cheaper but that is expected, but its fill is very good.
Hot Shot: I used only a bag of this and most of it I did some "target pratice". I feeling of these are the fill is week it has a strong shell, and is smaller than most paint.
recently bought 3 more cases of impact and one of the bags had a broken one >.< i am cleaning that bag and shooting it today we will see how it goes!
EDIT--
the bag shot fine with minimal stray shots

I didnt try many types but worr Domination paint flys straight and always breaks on contact and never broke in barrel, ( At least not with my spyder) 45$ per case
P.s. if you want a cheap paint just to shoot around or practice or just play with friends where it doesnt need to break, Monster Balls shoots pretty accurate, never breaks on target though...

This.
Seems to be a slight color difference in the Weapons Grade this year, but yeah, it's good stuff, decent prices too.
Monster Balls are good for chronoing.

Ive shot many different paintballs over the years, but Marbs are still my favorite to shoot in the phantom. Never dimpled, and a pretty goppy green fill.
I have good experience with monster balls , cheap but work for the price.

Now, I don't usually agree with this guy's views. He's entitled to his opinion as we all are, so I won't hold that against him. But this video should explain all you need to know about Monster Balls.....
**Caution**Video does swear a few times, but does a really good job of proving the horrible damage a Monster Ball can do......

I pretty much think Evil paint is the way to go but have had good experience with Elixir and Weapons Grade as well The cheaper stuff is nice when you shoot 7 cases in a game :)

maybe the local fields should think about this?

Yeah, I think Wallyworld paintball should be banned from fields. The stuff is HORRIBLE!! I took one to the melon, while sitting with my barrel sock on and between to refs, that made me see stars - no not the guys with 2 armbands- but didn't break.
There was some other stuff being shot that was like wax, did wipe off with out water. I saw a lot of RECON and whatever that red box from Walmart is...
upset:)

Although I'm usually against the "field paint only" rules which only allows you to buy 50$ paint at 75$. I totally agree with the idea of banning the wallyworld special paint. For one, it stains. Nice that someone being cheap can ruin your 100-200$ tac vests. Plus your BDU's and/or jerseys, goggles/gloves/headbands etc. Also I'm not one to complain about bruises or welts, to an extent. But getting hit with something that hard could cause some serious damage. I got hit with some of that **** at the last GBG and i STILL have a bruise from it (2 weeks is my longest PB bruise), and i'm a fast healer usually when it comes to bruises.
I personally think there should be a check on paint as well as chrono checks. FPS is only half the equation when it comes to safety in this sport. Shooting rocks at 280 fps is still shooting rocks. Like the guy in the video says "it's ok for checking your gun in your backyard, but should never be shot at another person"
So seriously, spend the extra 5-10$ for decent paint.
Oh and my personally fav. paint is also yellow evil.
Ok i'll stp QQ'n now :D
