Just an idea that I had.
There are relatively no Mil-sim games in MN. You know games with story lines, all mil-sim markers, camo requirements, medic rules, special weapons etc.

MN should really try to put together an annual big mil-sim game.
Most Scenario/Woodsball players would be very well prepared already.

Yes I have heard about military games at Combat Paintball but what I heard wasn't to good, to say the least.

What would you consider "Mil-sim"? Full on history lesson? Tanks? Grenades? Artillery?

... Badger? you out there?

I dont think you could get enough people out there with full on MilSimed markers and cammo to make any decent sized game in this area even D-Day doesnts have tons of mil simed out people there there are alot but D-Day is going on what 10 years?? of themed games?

Scenarios with a military theme? Great by me.

Scenarios with required dress, gear, etc ? Not so good.

I don't think it'll work. IMO, that form of "milsim" is reserved for airsoft.

Paintball is not realistic at all, but it's a fun game and was never meant to be realistic.

^^ Agreed. I believe that the definition (or what I hear) is: the simulation of a military event/scenario using replica weapons and vehicles to make as real to the original surcomestance and condition(sp).

Ok this was my definition.

The only way you can get a "true" milsim game is using what the millitary, SWAT, Security forces (of all kinds) use in some of their training. These thou shoot paint pellets over 500fps (correct me if I'm wrong) and are fired out of real firearms.

Security forces using simunition? Nah, we use the real thing. :scared0012:

Seriously though, I've only known police and military to use simunition, and even then it's a well-funded police force. I know poorer police that use airsoft instead.

Other than that, you're right. Simunition involves paintballs with a powder charge behind them that are fired from true firearms. I'm not sure what the velocity is, but they have to wear specialized gear for simunition.

IMO, simunition is too expensive and too potentially hazardous for "milsim" entertainment. That's what airsoft is for, as said before.

I know (from history chanel *gasp* yes I watch it) that the forces that guard places like fort Nox and other extremely important places like it (can't remember anyothers becuase I only saw 12min of actual dialog the rest was the scenario which was awsome) practice using simuition. True that is the Government.

I know I'm a relative newcomer to this forum but I have a group of guys that would absolutely love a true milsim game. I don't think its too far out of the question to require some type of camo, but what would the exact requirements be for a milsim gun? Would it have to model something like an M4 or G36, where would the line be drawn with this. A person could have a few mods and say that it was a M4 when all they put on is a CAR stock and a M4 style handgrip?

the only thing realy that is realistic to require is matching team uniforms like one side DCU and the other BDU so that teams can be more easile assesed

I really dont think something with both Milsim markers, and required uniforms and the like happning. Maybe a small group of like 10 could pull it off in an outlaw field or something like that.

I am all for scenario games. But if some one tells my I cant play because I pull out the DT, or my mini, or my Tac 8, or my Superstocker, (yea you get the piture) because they are not milsim. I would probably walk away, and never come back. That is something that is way hard core. I dont forsee it attracting a large crowd.

I encourage players to dress up for the Serenity game, and your costume actually adds points to your team, but I will never turn someone away with $30-35 in their pockets, a case of paint, and a readiness to get out there and play on July 20th.

When you get that hardcore, you start to lose what makes paintball so fun. It's supposed to be about the scenario story and the creativity of accomplishing a goal, not so much about how well you look like your character. Again, dressing up for Serenity is supposed to add fun to the game, but not be the total goal of it.

The Tac10 format looks to be the closest thing, to really work so far. I have watched it grow from a forum idea to something pretty big. They use rules to limit the player "classes" per unit/squad/whatever, also the classes have equipment & ammo limits themself. It is a bit of a hybrid between tactical paintball and full on milsim airsoft.

Yes yes yes...Tac10 is tied to Rap4, look past that and the format is pretty cool.

In a regular scenario game you cant ever get everyone to dress up, but its fun to play w/ a variety of people. Even as a Milsim team, my team only requires we all have the same uniform, beyond that we leave the tac vest, gun, harness, or whatever to the player because thats whatever there comfortable with. Its just easier to have a great game if you leave it open to all types of players, i think its more important that players get into the story if anything.

I agree with Badger, I dont think I mentioned what he said in my earlier post. I am for people dressing the role if they WANT too. I dont like it the idea being required.

On a side note, for the BFSV game I intend to dress my part :)

It may seam a little strict, I think matching uniforms and ammo restrictions are a good start though.:)
