May 4 2008. The fourth annual Hunt for the Cure Charity Game.
Splattag.
All proceeds from the event goes to Huntington Disease Society Of America.
Foster from Farmland returns as the General for the Marines (I could be wrong on the side) to defend his hard fought Victory of last year.
GhostWolf of WIP-SOG and President of The BadgerBrigades is looking to become the next king of the hunt.
Are you tough enough to hang in THE Scenario event of 2008?
Last year 2 Angel A1's, 1 Miltec 66 RIS and more where given away.
IF you can only make one scenario game in 08 make it the hunt. Have fun helping Hunting for the Cure for one of the worst diease in the world.
Leave some welts for a great cause!
Proudly Produced, Written, Reffed by Wild Bunch.
And Proudly Sponsored by SplatTag, Northern Command Paintball, WDP/Angel and more!

Thalion Dont take my post the wrong way.
What I meant was that GhostWolf knows and is known by quite a few players and teams and hopefully he can bring TONS of players and teams to the game. After everything else this game is for charity and the more people come to play the better.
More teams = better game = more teams = better game etc.

More than anything I would like to encourage those who do not play on a team to show up. This game started out as a small local scenario, and grew through word of mouth into something that is sure to show up on the national radar soon. It is the MN/WI PLAYERS that make this game what it is...and what it can be.
Not sure where you may fit in? Look into these groups, chances are you will find some of your soon to be best buddies:
-Sentinels (contact Tim)
-Pelican Brigade Paintball Club (contact AKA)
-Farmland (contact me)
-Working Class Heros (contact mustangman)
-Aces High (contact Bizzare87 because everyone knows badmoon is a tool...Just kidding)
Togeather we are stronger than the sum of our parts.

Yeah, WCH is always on the look out for more teammates and we are a really close knit group, so we try to make everyone feel like a part of the team. if there is anyone in the SW portion of the state looking for someone to play some paintball with prior to HFTC, contact me.

Um...what disease is this charity supposed to help fight?
Huntington's Disease is a disease of both the mind and the body. It is an inherited, progressively degenerative brain disorder. Typically, symptoms appear between age 30 and 50. However, cases have been noted as early as 2 and as late as 80.
The first symptoms usually appear slowly and can vary from person to person. Early symptoms include involuntary movements of the body and limbs and marked personality changes.Over a period of 10-25 years the ability to think, to speak and to walk is greatly diminished in persons with Huntington's Disease.
About ten percent of the Huntington's Disease cases will be juvenile striking at a very early age and progressing very rapidly.
At present, there is no cure. However, modern medicine has provided many drug treatments that help improve the quality of life for those with Huntington's Disease.
Huntington's Disease affects all sexes, races, ethnic groups, and ages. Each child of an affected parent with Huntington's Disease has a 50/50 chance of inheriting the gene. If a person carries the gene eventually they will develop Huntington's Disease.
I will say this (and only this Ill leave it up to him if he wants to elaberate more). There is a member of my team and One of my closest friends' that is at risk from this disease (as are his children). This person alot of you have played for, with and against. This strikes very close to home for most of WB.
Not game of paintball has to be about paintball.
At last years Hunt Game we raised 30k to donate to HDSA.

I'm sorry, I'd just never heard of Huntington's disease before. I thought it was a location or something, which is why I asked. I hope that you all have a big turnout, and that you can educate some people like me so that more people know what Huntington's is all about, and raise lots of money. I wish all of you the best of luck, both with the paintball game and the disease itself.

my wife is an RN and she described to me what Huntington's does. the closest thing i could compare it to would be; it would be like getting Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, and MS all at once and then still trying to function. it is an extremely difficult thing for not only the people that have the disease, but also their families. Like LT said, if you have Huntington's your kids would be genetically predetermined to potentially develop it as well. Since there is no known cure yet, it is an incredibly scary disease. that's why we should all come out to play this game and support a cause far greater than ourselves. If you think that you can't afford it, think again. money is only a tool, a tool that we should use to help better the world, not only for ourselves, but for others. if you can't attend, consider sending a donation. Please help the WB in their noble attempt to help others.

help:) I am putting out an open recruiting call to all teams and individuals who are interested in playing for the Mercinary side at The Hunt for the Cure! A call to all those who would stand against the Imperialist Coalition and the greedy pharmaceutical companies they represent! A call to stand for Truth! The Imperialists claim that they are trying to secure The Cure for the good of mankind, but they really want to control It, patent It and use It to bleed the nations of the world dry and control those so desperately in need of The Cure!
The Imperialists paint us Mercinaries as the greedy ones. They say we do not care about human suffering, only money! This is an outright lie! We fight for those who cannot fight for themselves, people held in bondage to wicked and immoral pharmaceutical companies and The Imperialist military/industrial complex who butcher for them! We are paid for our services just as the soldiers of The Imperialists are, however, we lay down our lives to bring freedom to the weak and oppressed, not to subjugate more innocent people under The Imperialist jackboot!
So I implore you, if you stand for freedom and truth, if you care about the poor and impoverished, if you abhor greed and the idea of a world run by corporations, STAND AND FIGHT ALONG SIDE OF US!
:D
Hey everyone! Yes, I will be there, as will some of the BadgerBrigades teams. Unfortunately, The Hunt is on the same day as the Judge Dredd game at Sherwood Forest, which Team WOW (Warriors of the Wilderness, one of our strongest teams) are already committed to playing.
While it is true that a number of BadgerBrigades teams are coming, most of those teams are small in size. Only two have more than 6 members that I'm aware of, WIP-SOG (the Wisconsin Paintball-Special Operations Group) and the Bulldogs. I am making efforts to recruit for the Mercinary side, but am also very very busy in my role as President of the BadgerBrigades.
But, no excuses.
I am very excited about The Hunt. It will be my first effort at being a General for a large game. I am aware of both Foster's and Damage Inc.'s reputations and have been informing my people that we will be in for a real test. Added to that, Minnesota has a strong paintball community and Foster is well known and respected in that community. This will make recruiting easier for him, especially since he can push the MN vs WI angle. Yes, I know that The Hunt is not a MN vs WI themed game, but I am the President of a Wisconsin scenario paintball network and the teams from that network who come to this game will all be fighting for me, therefore Foster can bill this as an opportunity to "hunt down some cheezers".
Having said all that, if anyone reading this post is interested in playing for the Mercinary side at The Hunt, you can PM me here or in The Badger Den ( http://www.badgerbrigades.com/den/index.php ).
This is going to be one of the best games of the year and I encourage everyone who is still on the fence about coming to attend. It's a great game for a great charity (HDSA) reffed by some great guys (WILD BUNCH) at a spectacular field (Splat Tag).

Good to see you on here, Ghostwolf.
I was starting to notice that by demographics, it could well turn into a MN/WI rivalry. I'm sure you'll pick up some Minnesotans though (Erndogg and his kin come to mind).
What I'd like to see is if we can call on our neighbors, players from the Dakotas, Iowa, or even those crazy Canucks north of the border.
Let's see how big we can make this.

It is to be taken in the spirit in which it was intended, as a function of my role as Merc General. Role, as in acting. It is propaganda for the sake of making the game more fun.
Just thought I should clarify that before someone accuses me of being un-American or anti-soldier.

I'm wondering about our law rules.
The last 3 years we've had a 20' radius of destruction from the point of impact. Which simulates the explosive force of rocket propelled weapons. It also means you could be killed by a nearby law hit without actually being hit.
What do you all think?
Should we keep it that way or drop the "Splash" damage?
Making laws useless except for hard targets.
I kind of like getting the law players into the game more, but thats just me.

Yeah we were on top of that pretty well last year and it helps swing a battle either way as well. I would limit the # of rounds that the AT launcher can have on his person say one in the pipe and 2 reloads with reloads being carried buy other squad members as well with a limit of 2 per person
Thalion
03-04-2008, 07:00 PM
Leave it as it is.
I'm not so sure about the limits. I've never seen anyone carry more than 6 before (counting the one in the pipe). Since all LAWs at the game will be single shot (must open the breech and reload every time), I don't think it's particularly excessive firepower. I didn't run into any problems at last year's Hunt regarding LAWs. I was eliminated by one once, and that was that. With the cost of the nerf rounds, most LAW users will want to try and recover their projectiles.
If we want to reduce the "splash damage" to a 10 foot radius instead of 20 as a means to compensate, I wouldn't mind. I guess I just didn't run into any problems with it last year and I tend to run by the "if it ain't broke" method.

My fellow Coalition,
Almost a year has past since our victory over the Mercenary forces at the battle of “Operation Lone Star”. Now on the eve of our anniversary, reports from around the globe warn of new threats against the civilized world. Despite scientists being kidnapped, data files being stolen & the constant attempt’s on the lives of high level medical corporations CEO’s the enemy has failed in every attempt to capture a pure strain.
Now is not the time to rest on our success, complacent thoughts are a security threat that we can no longer afford. The lazy minds of the politicians have helped the enemy gain ground, every inch of red tape threatening to tie out hands as the enemy waits in the shadows.
Yet there is a silver lining in this crisis.
The polarization of our officials has exposed those within our ranks, who under the sheep’s coat of “compassion” would gladly trade your liberty for a promise of power. The rank and file socialist media prey on our young and elders, headlines and sound bits are there weapon of choice.
True compassion can only be wielded by the strong…the brave…the free.
Fear not my brothers in arms, that your sacrifice will be wasted in the halls of bureaucracy & to the pages of history. That your strength and courage will be overshadowed by close up camera tricks & Berkeley protesters. For this battle will be won with or without the approval of the swine’s. This is a battle that will challenge the so called global leaders to re-read there history…And educate themselves on the perseverance and resolve of a threatened free society.
We stand as the front line, at the dawn of a new age, with the blood of free men running through our veins. We stand as our forefathers stood over 200 years ago, against the threat of tyranny & injustice. We stand as the guardians for the weak, the fearful, and the future.
We hold the cure, and with it the responsibility.
Political rules of engagement will not shield the enemy; we are prepared to use every means at our disposal to ensure victory, stability & freedom.
Check your equipment & search your soul.
Once again it is time, your time to save the world!

Read the updated rules, looks good so far.
The only question I have is if other players can "join" the mission later (mid-mission attempt).
Example: Squad A leaves the main HQ with the mission card and heads towards Wild Bunch base. At the plane, they come by friendly Squad B, who decides to reinforce Squad A. They continue to the mission objective, where the holder of the mission card is eliminated in a firefight. Can a member of Squad B pick up the card and finish the mission, or does it need to be a member of Squad A?
Podoz1
03-17-2008, 12:21 PM
I have a follow up question to Thalion's: How do you know who is on "squad A" and "Squad B"?
I think this is a different way of puting it: "Mission Squad A" meets "mob/herd (bunch of people following a team player) B" they join to gether and the person carrying the mission sheet is eliminated can a perosn outside of the mission squad take up the sheet and finish the mission.

I'm just putting it in my light atleast from what I understand this is how I would ask it. Now if you meant if two "Mission squads" wouldl join up to accomplish both mission thats a different story.

As long as the mission sheet doesn't have a player limit thats fine.
If it says "10 player squad limit" you can't roll in with 30 guys.
Your mission would be to remain a small squad operation.
Mission failed.
No points awarded.

Agreed.
Likewise, missions may require a minimum number of survivors (live players) by missions end, or designated personnel "mission essential" who must remain alive throughout the mission.
The mission cards will be specific on these points, so if the mission card doesn't specifically forbid something, and it doesn't break any game rules, it should be legal.

Greetings,
My name is Burt Peterson.
Many of you know me simply as "Brutis".
I am the captain and founder of Wild Bunch, a scenario paintball team located in Minnesota.
I am at risk for Huntington's disease. (HD)
Both my mother & my brother have HD.
I have a 50/50 (coin toss - heads you get it & die, tails you don't) chance of developing this terrible disease.
My daughter is also at risk.
For the majority of my life I've hid & downplayed my risk. Now that I'm at the age when symptoms start to develop, I've decided (with the support of my friends & teammates) to do what I can to raise awareness & money for research. Since HD is an inherited disease, the general public doesn't seem concerned about it. As a result, our families (who are the ones affected the MOST by HD) end up being our caregivers.
My method of fighting this dragon is hosting the "Hunt for the cure" charity scenario game.
http://www.wildbunchpaintball.com/hunt.html
100% of profits from this event go to the Huntingtons Disease Society of America. (HDSA)
For three years now, we've produced an event that is quickly becoming the premier scenario game in the upper midwest. I believe that by providing a superior event, entries will continue to rise.
But we need your help. Please watch this video. You will learn more about why we are fighting.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHv-CNDxV5U
This is just one other family trying to do something for their loved ones.
These people were not born disabled – they got this during the prime of their life and were robbed of everything.
We need your help. Please consider our paintball charity event for your schedule. If you cannot attend, please volunteer or contribute.
I'm not sure what my future will be, but with your help, others like my daughter, might just have a future.
Respectfully,
Burt "Brutis" Peterson

Due to High gas Prices I thought that Woodland Security would consider renting a Charter bus for the trip to "Hunt for the Cure"May 4th. I have a friend who owns the charter company and has set aside a bus for that Sunday.Woodland Security should Have about 20 going.,I hope anyways,The bus holds 47 people and we want to fill it up.If we can fill the bus up it will cost 20.00 a person. Not bad Considering all the cost for gas and wear on your Vehicle. This is an open invite to anyone in the Rochester,MN Area that wants to attend.I am reserving 20 for Woodland Security.so there are 27 open seats. please call me asap if you want to join the Bus ride.

Hunt for the cure was my favorite scenario game of last year, I'm there for sure this year. If you need any help shuttling in from where you park your bus I don't mind driving back and forth, not that I have a big car or anything but I'm sure it would be better than hoofing it.

Wow, thanks for you interest guys!
We have had numerous requests for the map we will be using this year. However, at this time the 2008 Hunt for the Cure map hasn't been released as we are still working out some of the game details. IF the map is publicly released before the game it will only be out a week before the event. For now all I can say is the game field will be at least the same size, possibly a little larger if enough preregistrations warrant it, and encompass roughly the same fields we used last year.
There will several more MAJOR changes from last years map and game that for now will have to remain under wraps but will play a big part in the game. Players who have attended previous Hunt for the Cure events have come expect that, and we don't want to disappoint. We do like to throw in "unexpected" elements into the game to keep players on their toes so keep your plans flexible.

It is getting close!
Please, if you are new to scenario games or if you feel that (because of all the hype talk) that this game is too hardcore...reconsider. Despite all the talk, HFTC is by far the most "fair" scenario game to be held at SplatTag. It is not that ST does a bad job in running there games, it is because WB puts there ENTIRE team on the field as reffs. You will be hard pressed to find a higher ratio of reffs to players at ANY scenario game of this size.
It has never been the right of the might, But the might of the right!

Hey i got a question on registery. I did the online registery and I don't think there was a coalition/mercenaries box to check. What happens if I get put on the wrong team (mercenaries) also I did fill out/ say that I'm a part of the Sentinels so i don't know if that will help them sort that out. I would just like some feedback, I could have on accident missed that box.
On a side note but did some one from Damage Inc. clean out the forest lake Walmart of impact paint? (hey its good paint for $40 never had a broken or dimpled ball from there.)

The game is decided, the map has been made...It all leaves me with a great feeling of Envy:D. I SO wish I could play in this game!! If scenario is what you crave, come to HFTC & drink at the fountain of plenty! If speedball is more your style, bring your A game and you will not be disapointed! I believe this is the best game we've come up with yet! With fair weather and good attitudes/sportmanship this could be the best game for everyone involved!!(volunteers/players alike.) It chokes me up, to see all the dedicated supporters/players and the kind words for what we are trying to accomplish by doing what we love to do. For the love of the game and the people who play it, join us to make it great! Danger-911

Well, I will tell you all that the Mercenary side is very amped about this game. We have been recruiting feverishly and have some good Operators committed to us.
I do want to agree with Foster, though. Those of you who are new to scenario games and are worried about how "hardcore" this game might be should relax. The Hunt '06 was my first ever scenario game and even though I've played in many since then, I still find The Hunt to be one of the best run and fairest games.
Having said that, those of you who are experienced scenario players who are still on the fence about coming to this game should make the decision to come. Wild Bunch has always put on a great game and there will be plenty of opportunities for more experienced players/teams to step-up and make a genuine difference in the outcome of this game.
And yeah, there is a lot of hype around this game, and rightly so. Foster has last year's win to defend and I......
I and the rest of my organization will be coming to serve notice that Scenario Paintball is alive and well in Wisconsin and that we are ready to go head to head with anybody. But I should mention, to clear up any confusion, that The BadgerBrigades are not a strictly Wisconsin Scenario Paintball Network. We are an Upper-Midwest Scenario Paintball Network that happens to be based out of Wisconsin. We have a couple of Minnesota teams on board with us as well as a multi-state team.
So, for those Minnesota teams that have been recruited for the Coalition on the premis that this is some sort of WI vs MN game and are only going Coalition because they want to be loyal to their state, you'll be more than welcome on the Merc side if that's where you'd rather be. This is Mercs vs Coalition, not WI vs MN. You wouldn't be the only MN Mercs this year. And yeah, I already know Foster has some Sconnie crews under his banner...
Anyway, it's going to be an incredible game for a worthy cause, and that is the real focus of this game. Win or lose, we are all helping out in the......

Heres a Question for Wild Bunch. Will anyone be able to take registration forms and money at the Jungle-Rumble Game on the 27th? I know thats how I registered last year so I would like to do the same this year if possible. If its been mentioned earlier I apoligize for not re-reading 12 pages.:D Let me know, Thanks./AKA

I hope it doesn't rain near (before or during) the game becuase then I have to go mech and that is boring (most of the time) my feet will be dry thankfully with my nice boots.

Why?
Rain won't hurt the electronic markers... I've played with my Viking in a pure downpour before on a speedball field. No damage.
Total submersion? Might be hard on a electronic marker given adequate time submerged. But rain? No. Ask any of us who use them.
Granted, I'm almost certainly going mech for this game, but it has nothing to do with the weather.

I don't mean to wreck the fun, but are grenade launchers OK at this event?
I know the JCS launchers / nerf launchers are ok for tanks/bunkers/indirect fire ( "splash damage" )
Just following up from Krutsie's post, I don't want anyone unintentionally getting into trouble.
Rocket launchers were used last year and the year before that.
I remember the year my teams General walk off the field with 45 minutes to go in the game and the only Rocket launcher our team had went with him. He likes to say "First to Play, Last to Stay!" ;)
But I will always remember the brave few that fought to the end and got the snot knock out of us by a Black hawk helicopter for 45 minutes. We didn't need our General, we just needed the Rocket launcher. ;)
A lot of good men got eliminated that day! :(

I don't want to go mech because this is the first time I get to use my t-board so i don't want miss out on that. But trust me I'll still play. KARE11 just said it was going to snow on sat. then rain on sunday.

Check this out instead:

Partly Cloudy
Hi of 53F
Low of 40F
20% chance of precip
Electros should be fine for this as long as they don't get submerged as previously mentioned.
FYI I think thats pretty close to the same chance of precip we have had for the last couple of years so don't sweat it.

Tradtionally, we get the map same day.
I wouldn't expect this to be much different, the only question I would like to know is if there is any expanded boundary for this game (for example, is the gauntlet fair game? How about the big field?)
Usually, we can make a decent plan just based on the knowledge of the field, without the actual paths/details in place yet.

Print it out if you wish, every player will receive a copy in their player packet as well.
Start adapting your strategies.
There are 3 bridges (red) across the Rhine river.
The 2 yellow rectangles are for eliminated players to cross back to their sides, we don't want eliminated players clogging the red bridges.
Yes, we will have refs IN the river. If a player crosses the blue tape line, they are out.
It will be interesting to see how the teams cope with this.

Burt,
I will ask this publicly since GW should know too:
Are the yellow "bridges" STRICTLY FOR ELIMINATED PLAYERS?
Badger
05-02-2008, 09:54 AM
I'm no official voice on this, but my guess would be that the yellow bridges are strictly for eliminated players, and probably manned by referees for such purposes. If this were the Serenity game, that's how I'd do it, to make sure that no one abuses those secondary bridges.
Brutis
05-02-2008, 10:14 AM
"Are the yellow "bridges" STRICTLY FOR ELIMINATED PLAYERS?"
Thats correct. Only eliminated players will be allowed to cross at those points. If a player crosses the river into enemy territory, then gets shot out, they should move to the crossing zone and return to their base to tag back in.
Only players with their markers in the air & the correct team color, will be allowed to cross at those areas. We expect that the bridges will be "hot" for the entire game. DO NOT attempt to cross the bridges if you are eliminated!!
Those who have played the Hunt before know that our refs are on top of the game. Trying to skirt the rules is futile & will most likely result in a player getting a punch on their ID badge. 2 punches & they go home. This isn't baseball. You get 1 warning punch & on the second punch you lose the right to play in the game.

Brutis

"Only players with their markers in the air & the correct team color, will be allowed to cross at those areas."
Just to make it clear, this is a ONE WAY crossing at the "Dead man's bridge".
(Good term Foster, I'm stealing it! ;))
Under no circumstances will we allow yellow players to cross over into red territory & vice versa. The "dead mans bridge" is only for returning to your respective sides & to allow players fighting at the bridges to do so uninterrupted. Get your ID badge out & you'll be fine.
This will all be covered in our pre-game briefing as well.

this is a direct quote from the HFTC page
Demolitions: Any building, bridge, or bunker you see that is wrapped in brightly colored one-inch tape has been destroyed. You may hide behind it or around it, but you may not enter the structure, or cross the bridge, until an engineer repairs it and removes the tape.
