Frosty the General

If you live where the snows fall, then you’ve probably made a snowman or two in your time. Have you ever considered, though, that a snowman could be used in paintball?

The idea of Frosty the General stems from the ability to play during good packing-snow conditions, and a traditional game of El Presidente. If the snow on the ground allows you to build snowmen, then you’re ready for a fun game.

Divide teams evenly, and send each team to the opposite sides of the field. At the first sound of the horn, both teams must then quickly build a snowman at least as high as the shortest person on their side. Players must use paintballs for eyes, nose, mouth, and buttons. You can add anything beyond that if you wish to further decorate your snowy general. After an agreed amount of time, the horn blows again, signalling that both sides can rush forward and search out the opposing snowman.

Should a player successfully reach the other side and locate the opposing general, they then have to shoot and hit the general at least once to win the game. Generals can be hidden behind pine trees or even be barricaded behind a built-up snow wall to help hinder enemy fire. A snowman cannot, however, be completely enclosed in an igloo structure. There must be at least 50% of the snowman exposed for sniper shots.

A variation of this game is known as Charge of the White Brigade. Again, a horn is initially blown giving all players the chance to quickly build a snowman the same height as themselves. Again, players must decorate their snowman with paintballs for a face. At the sound of the second horn, players rush out and attempt to not only dodge oncoming fire, but successfully smash all of the snowmen for each of the opposing side. Once a player’s snowman is destroyed, they can no longer reinsert at the flag base to come back into the game. The first team to completely obliterate the other side’s snowman army wins the game.
