Frycook? You have Ranger school guaranteed in your enlistment? ...nice!
Wings, Ranger tab ----> going Airborne? beret:)
I was activated for 9-11 and did a lot of work with Rangers/ MP's... the whole anti-terrorism crowd. Good times! Your p-ball skills will serve you well. But remember; when you get hit there... there is no "reinsertion". Keep yer head on a swivel and stay safe, man!

Some things I've learned from those who went over there:
1) I've heard that UN and French referees suck.
2) Nerf rockets don't do anything against guys hiding in buildings.
3) Al Queda can be the biggest wipers you've ever known.
4) IED removal earns double points if they don't go off.
5) Terminators aren't allowed in the game.
Seriously, though, DO stay safe and watch your buddy's back. Thank you ALL who have served, no matter when you did.
We are free only because of you.

I was going to enlist in the army this summer after I graduate, but I need to be off all medication for a year beforehand. My parents however did not want me to be off my ADHD meds for senior year. But enough of my venting. Frycook, good luck in Ranger school and the rest of your military career!:)

Yup there are no longer any conventional Carriers left.
All of them are Nukes now.ship:)tomcat:)

You forgot the Kitty Hawk CV-63!
Very Conventional! I'm quite sure that she's the last one... I was surprised when they de-com'd the Kennedy before the sh***y kitty.
The Enterprise CVN 65 and the Nimitz classers (68-76) are what's left, then.
Did you guys hear about the new SUPER-carriers that are being built now?
LoudThunder
02-29-2008, 07:26 PM
Kitty I believe just got de-commed.
Vander
02-29-2008, 08:55 PM
Nope she's in Japan out of Yokosuka. I was just stationed in Atsugi recently and the Kitty was there... still is.
LINK (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Kitty_Hawk_%28CV-63%29)
But I just confirmed online that the Kitty is the last of the conventional carriers.
This is a cool LINK (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_aircraft_carriers_of_the_United_States_Nav y) too.

On those new "super carriers" They will no longer have steam catapults. They will be Electro-magnetic. A much smoother and more controllable system. Finally rollercoaster technology will help the USN.

I was gonna sign up for the Army this summer, and then go to basic the summer after; but I'm going to do a year of college before I head off to basic. Then I will be old enough to get an 18X (Special Forces) contract since you have to be 20 to do so. Can't wait though! recon:)

and at least a E-4 make sure you can pass the AFPT with at least a 270 as well you also should join as a 11X (Infantry) with Airborne as your first contract so you can be in a good position to do the things that it seems like you wanna do. And you will be in a great MOS in case you dont pass Q course. Also when you pass the Q course you dont get to pick your specialty they assign one to you (Weapons Commo Medic or Engineer) Decided by a board you also will get assigned a language as well at that time so some language background is nice to have you can pick in order you prefrences and 80% of the time you get it but once you pass the Q your at the mercy of the needs of the regimentberet:)

Very true. I'm still thinking about signing up this coming summer, and then leaving the summer after my senior year; as long as I can get an Option 4 (Airborne) in my contract. I just don't want to sign on as an 11X and get stuck as an 11C [Mortarman].

Any of you guys been to Iraq recently? I might be going this Fall....maybe.
Not too much detail, now (OPSEC).
I'm just looking for general hints and tips for a short deployment.

Vander,
1. Don't go until the referee blows the whistle.
2. Make sure you're standing fully in the base before the game starts.
3. Be sure that your hopper and pods are all full.
4. Figure out a plan before game start. Too many times players just stand around wondering what to do.
5. Come back safely. beret:)

Silly String (depending on your job) and baby Wipes
Ha-ha-ha!! Silly String? I'd be working as a Military Police Officer (That would be hilarious... )
And the baby wipes... I learned that one from an 11-B (I was on field-ex with a bunch on them); very valuable!
No worries, Badger... I haven't even finalized my re-enlistment yet, but the guys that I've talked to so far say that as long as you don't get complacent, you'll make it okay.

Vander-
If you go, make sure we have you APO. My dad was a corpsman in the late 50s and early 60s. He and my mother have sent a couple hundred care packages to Soldiers, Marines, Corpsmen and Airmen in theatres over the last few years. The local paper did a story on them about it. (http://meadowareanews.com/main.asp?SectionID=7&SubSectionID=19&ArticleID=256&TM=74790.49)

Wow! That is very nice, Rouge. Getting care packages is always a morale booster on deployments. I'll remember to post the APO when (if) I get over there.
Send silly string! ha-ha!
This one will be pretty short if I understand correctly... it will be a breeze compared to the other deployments I've been on.... not a big deal at all.
