View Full Version : HPA - New Reg Installation Question

Who all in the Twin Cities has the capabilities to replace a busted Crossfire regulator?

I have a 70/4500 tank that's in hydro until 2012, but the reg is shot. I've tried replacing the fill nipple without success. I've done what I can, but I don't have the tools to fully remove the reg from the tank.

I'm pretty much ready to just forget it, and try to replace it with a Ninja. But I don't have the tools to do that replacement.

This is somewhat of a backburner project for me, since I have other expenses to consider first and I still have my 68/4500 Ninja for playing paintball. It'd only really get bumped up in priority if I could get a guest without gear to come.

Second question - will the cost of the reg and cost of installation ultimately hit the cost of a new tank? I'd hope not, but I honestly don't know.

Thanks,

send it to crossfire, they do reg replacement for like $70.

Good call.

Looks like it's actually going to be less right now.

$25 + shipping right now. That's a lot better than I expected.

I may have to do that sooner rather than later now that I see it'll be that low a cost.

I used Crossfire for a reg replacement on my Dye tank. I believe at the time it was about 20$ plus shipping. Their turnaround was decent and I have had no issues with the tank or reg over the last 2 1/2 seasons...Go for it.

that price was like 2-3 years ago. so yeah that is great if they do it for $25 now. or look into Ninja reg. are great and adjustable.

When I won that Ninja reg last year, I did the reg swap myself. It's a PITA, but if you aren't worried about damaging the reg you're removing, it's no big deal. If I had to do it again, I'd make a tool: a steel bar with 1/8NPT threads cut, to be screwed into the fill nipple to act as a lever. That, plus a good strap wrench on the tank, and it should go well.

If I were in your boat, I'd have Ninja re-hydro the tank and put a Ninja Reg on for you. I know it's a waste since there's still 2 years left on the hydro, but it's the most elegant solution. The threads on the tank should be inspected every time a reg is removed.
