Soooooo even though its still 11ish months away i want to start a LL4 thread to see who is interested in going since Firefly's Purple Green and Gold DDay trip thread has taken a left turn to Chicago (see what i did there?). So it would be great to have a list of interested teams, and to get input from people who have been there. Not much info is out but it would be awesome to show up with 100 or so people from Wisconsin and MN and basically play as a huge team. Also if anyone has connections to cheap hotels, rides or the like post up here..
Lets get this planned!

Assuming its the same weekend in May. I really dont know. It might conflict with school it might now. I'm not really sure. The good thing about DDay is that I'm out of school by then so its all good.
I will have to see when the date gets closer. But i would love to go. And with no HFTC in May i might actually be able to make it.

If it's LL4, or D-Day, I'd happily choose LL4 for the only travel game to attend.
Then again, with the big three (IMO) - D-Day, Castle Conquest, LL4....I'd rather make CC. But that's a bit costly for 6 hours of play lol.

I know that Team Akkadian, the River Rats, the boys from First Strike, and the Working Class Heroes are planning on attending as a group. From what I understand, the WCH is building a tank for LL this year.
Also, I am planning on a small deviation from the main battle plan with the above mentioned group......anyone that wants to go to Midieval Times with us is more than welcome. And it truly is, kick ***. We'll talk more about that as the time gets closer.
We are probably going to make a 4 day weekend out of the deal. Hotel for Wednesday night/thursday night. Camp it Friday and Saturday nights. Home sunday after the game.

There's also Panzer Attack in Early April...bit of a haul, but definately worth going to.

Yeah Neil, it sounds like some of us from the Northwoods Regulators(First Strike paintball) are planning on doing a return trip for LL4. Though we will be in a hotel the whole weekend again. The A/C was nice after a day of playing in 98degree temps with about 80%humidity!
I had fun playing there, but REALLY hope they do something to solve that bottleneck at the air bunker/hyperball area! We kept getting stuck there, and really didn't got to play any of the other themed fields all weekend, except for the final battles Saturday and Sunday. Another tank would be pretty sweeet!
Neil, I'll get with ya later as for who's in....

I hope to actually play at LL4 next year, instead of driving 8 hrs there, getting sick Friday night and then driving 8 hrs back Saturday morning. We'll see what happens though!

Long bus ride with the Twinns?....hmmmm. LOL. We've actually planned to attend CPX Living Legends this year but thing fell through a few weeks before, three events in three weeks. Maybe next year.

My unit (40+ players) at D-Day played LL3 before coming down to Oklahoma and they said the two simply don't compare. 1/10th the field size, 1/3 the number of players and no unit cohesion or on-field organization. Plus, with the field layout, the action bottle-necked, keeping most players from the main attractions of the Town of Bedlam and Armageddon. So, while I still want to try LL IV for myself to help prepare for D-Day, I know of no one who would recommend LL instead of D-Day.
I am planning to hit both events next year, so I can take the "Pepsi challenge" myself, but I wanted to report the shared opinion of everyone I talked to who attended both events this year.

The reason for no unit cohesion at LL3 was the fact the general on our side(The Man) didn't seem to give time of day to anyone other than his team! They got all the missions, and all the pats on the back. The only time we even saw him was during the Sunday Final battle, and I had him in my face for not moving up further. He didn't seem to like it when I told him in not so gentle words to "take a flying leap, I know what I'm doing"! :)
Our unit of 5 teamed with a couple kids outta Iowa, and proceded to create some havok on unsuspecting yellow players, including more than one time a yellow unit started screaming "SNIPER IN THE WOODS!" sniper:)

I proberly could toy with the idea of going to ll4 but there's not much info on the game, scenario, attendance etc.. on the web, the Fields page for the game only shows some pics from this years event & from what I've seen it's a 1000-2000 player game sandwiched between speedball tournaments.
Anyone have more info & stats on what the actual game is about, times, costs etc...?

Thats because the NPPL Chicago event was held at the same place. But I heard from like the guys at techpb and other sites that it was a vary fine held game.

hopefully it's more exciting than "very fine game" lol if I'm spending $500 on a paintball trip it better a "crazy, intense, amazing game" hahahaha

$500 for a paintball trip to Chicago!? What are you doing, chartering a jet? lol
It wasn't quite $400 each for our team members to get to Oklahoma and that included renting an RV and our gas down there and back. However, the LL trip we will be hotel-ing it I think just because I don't wanna rent an RV just to go to Chicago area. I don't plan on going much over $200 for LL next year. That will be nice.

It would be easy to spend that much, with paint being $70 a case(pre reg) on top of the entry. Add in hotel(unless you want to camp there), gas, food, it's pretty expencive. I think our team spent about $500(2 cases paint, entry, hotel Fri-Sunday, gas, food, and a little spending money) each. help:)
This year had 1400 players I think they said at the end of the weekend. The theme changes every year, so we won't know untill probably begining of next year on that. It follows Vipers general rules to the games they run, so you can look at those on their site.
The biggest complaint heard on the web about the game was the bottleneck at the "dogleg" between Bedlam and the hyperball field. Everything kept getting caught in the choke point and stalemated constantly. Sure, there would be a push here, a push there, but it all came right back to that point. The only time the Bedlam and Armageddon fields came into play was the final battles on Saturday and Sunday, but the rest of the time, you never played in there.

The reg fees weren't too bad...about 50 to 70 I think, depending on when you registered. The paint, on the other hand, was expensive! I think they were charging something like $80 a case (I believe it was Evil). Thankfully I never purchased any, so I was only out the entry fee and the gas cost to get there.

Yeah man, i'm considering this, I've got a brother that lives in Chicago and it's about 45 minutes to an hour drive from his place in Wicker Park to Joliet so in all liklihood I would crash at his place. I might be able to convince him to let 2 or 3 others crash there too (no guarantees) and further convince him to come out to the event and take pics, he's an awesome photographer.
Actually, I mentioned CPX and Living Legends to him over the Christmas break and he just might be cool with the whole thing.

Your going to drive 45 min each morning? Sounds a little excessive. But if its a free place to crash.. Why not!! Haha..

It'll be rough, probably hitting some bars in Chi-Town because it's my B-Day, but hell I get to see family, party, and play ball it's a win/win!
Early morning drives out of Chicago probably won't be too bad at all on a weekend.
I don't see anything on the site as far as start times, does anyone know anything about that?
NickVanDick
01-06-2011, 11:01 AM
I'm not sure. I haven't seen anything either. I'm assuming they wont release that until it gets closer to the date.
I'm excited for this.

Okay..
So I did some quick math on what It might cost.. For anyone that is interested. I will post the total up top if you dont want to read any further, Lol
Total is around $1000 or soo...
$50 for Registration (before May 9th)
$15 for Air (Thats per TANK!)
$15 for Event T-Shirt (Kinda want one.. :))
$75 for a case of paint And multiply that by 5 for both days.(before May 9th)
$270 for 3 nights Hotel
Thats at the Best Western 20 Min from the field. (Without the discount they may offer for the event) That is for Two Queen beds.. etc.. Check in Friday, Check out Mon..
$200 roughly for gas.. Thats at 15 MPG at $3.00 per gallon.. Thats also round trip.
So again the total comes out to about 1K.. Thats not including food and other random BS...
But.. This could easily be cut in HALF for each person, if we threw 2-3 people in a car/hotel room.. Etc..
Anyone wanting more info.. etc. Please PM me..
Anyone looking to share a ride, gas moneyz, Hotel Etc.. I have no objection to sleeping on the floor in a hotel room to cut costs even more. Ive slept in the trunk of my car before!

no, not for LL. there was confusion last year since there was a tournament set up in the parking lot. They were charging for parking for that one - and since it was all one lot - well, some dumb *** high schools kids running parking couldn't really keep it straight.
and yes, $15 for air for the whole event. That is per-tank with is a bit annoying, but only if you want to have multiple tanks running which isn't usually necessary.

There is also room at the field for camping...and I don't think it costs anything (maybe wrong on that). There isn't too much space, but if you get there early enough on Friday to get a parking spot you shouldn't have any problems. Also, I know a few people just camped out in their vehicles in the parking lot.
Going this route would save at least a quater off the previously posted estimate.

We took an RV down to D-Day (different company, so may not be the same experience) and we got boned with different fees and changing costs. It's something to look into, but be 200% sure you're not going to be charged extra fees.
nchittendon
01-17-2011, 08:53 AM
Don't take my Sergeant the wrong way, that RV was the ONLY way to go for the Dday trip.
But remember:
1) Generator fee. Just plan on it. Don't cut it out thinking you're not going to use it. Cause you are. Period. Given that the TV won't run without the generator. The Microwave won't run without the generator. All the perks of having an RV don't do squat unless you're willing to pay extra. So just plan on it.
2) Make sure you know of ALL the charges before you sign. There was a ton of stuff that we weren't ready for.
3) know how much fuel is at every stop along the way!! You can budget on averages, but it helps to know exactly what you're going to be up against.
As far as Living Legends, a bunch of us are going to be takin it easy. Hotel, Medieval Times for dinner Thursday night, and possibly some site seeing around Chicago for a while Friday. If anyone wants to get in on a group rate at the hotel, and dinner thursday, let us know! We will be happy to take in stragglers and/or stragglers and their teams.
We don't do anything half assed. lol
