as some of you know, a few of us @ Splat Tag high command made a last minute trip to Oklahoma DDAY this year.
Even though it was the longest car ride of my life I had the best paintball time as a player!
At the game we met quite a few local players from MN & WI.
After much thought we have decided we must go to this event again next year ! BUT with some preplanning! Also we have discovered many others including many who have never played DDAY before have a desire to go in 2011 but maybe haven't had others to go with or transportation!
So the plan were looking at is to car pool or charter a bus of some kind & split the transportation cost to keep it as low as possible!
We also are getting great response to people wanting to be part of the trip & representing the MN/WISC area.
This is the first post with the idea, most posts & chat about details can be figured out here.sniper:)

to represent this trip I came up with the idea of using the Vikings & Packers colors PurpleGreenand Gold
(which also happen to be Marti Gras colors, making it easy to find gear & props etc... to match LOL)
Find Some PurpleGreenand Gold stuff to play with & or wear on the trip!!!

My friend Kent Has his own charter bus and charter business. He offered me the bus when we first decided to bring a big group of Woodland Security to our first HFTC. It ended up we all carpooled but he rented me his 9 passanger van. I know he would give us an awesome rate. I even considered getting a group of Woodland Security together to attend.

If there's an interest in shirts, Special Ops paintball / extreme stitchworks can now do them.
Maybe we should have something like a long-sleeve t-shirt design for game day? Sort of a spin on what the Commonwealth guys do, except for having it based around the MN/WI team going down there instead of a specific D-Day unit?

I may be present at Dday next year, but not as a player.
That being said, some of my guys think they might wish to help ref down at Dday. That is their choice and probably won't be a total team sanctioned thing.
The goal for Team Akkadian for 2011 is to go kick some *** at Living Legends. Never been, and we feel we need to get away from Oklahoma for a while.
As Mustangman mentioned, we would be more than happy to offer help/advice to those who might ask.

Having a bus for LL4 would be nice. Space is a bit limited at the field there, so parking might be an issue. Would have to check beforehand.
I'm assuming that the group would be camping or would people sleep on the bus?
As for D-Day, assuming I'm still in the area next year, I'd probably drive myself down again as I will be sleeping in a motel again (did it this year and loved it).

A good friend of mine made aquote something on these lines....I wont attend Living legends untill Darrin gets nominated as a living Legend...Foster." I have to agree with this statment, what do we have to do to make this happen?
nchittendon
07-02-2010, 08:21 AM
Not slighting Darrin and his achievements in the LEAST bit, but when I think of a Living Legend, I think of Viper, traveling the country.....WORLD planning scenarios. I think of ......and I hate to say it......Greg Hastings, he's at almost every event out there, promoting the **** out of his stuff, which in turn, is promoting the sport of paintball....GLOBALLY. I think of Blue Hanse and Blue's Crew who are promoting at games all over the place from the start of the season until the end. Sean Scott, Eric Engler, John Amodea.....
Again, don't get me wrong or come at me with childish banter, Darrin does a hell of a job at what he does. For his portion of what he does for paintball, I feel that he should definitely be recognized, but if he is to be a Living Legend, then Dewayne Convirs. The owner of Hidden Valley Paintball. The Owner of First Strike paintball. See what I mean? Again, Darrin, I played by your side at Dday this year, I know you are out there chewin dirt and most definitely involved with the sport.......
You draw an interesting question to boot though......what does qualify someone as a Living Legend???

Honestly LL hasn't been a big interest to me.
I've been to a Viper game, and had fun. I may go back to one when it's at Sherwood Forest (enjoyed that field a lot).
One of these days, I'll make it to a Castle Conquest out east. I'm going to pass on Skirmish due to safety concerns.
I'm thinking about going back to D-Day one last time, but we'll see.
I have to admit, my interest in the larger games has been decreasing of late, for several reasons.

Well I wanna go to ALL the games EVERYWHERE!!!!I just need money, and transportation, and time off from work, and......yeah. I will have to see how my schedule plays out I might go to d-day or Living Legends for the first time next year. And I think it would be cool to have a bunch of WI/MN players show up in buses and all wearing the same kinda shirt, we could make our own unit, if thats how things work ;)

True it's early to start the planning but it gives alot of people 10 months to
secure finances, also by laying down a foundation of a core people going & transportation people then can prepare in the many coming months & leave excuses in the past lol
***We have secured atleast 1 driver with a large bus & trailer for this trip already! cost should be no more than $50 a person for round trip! Proberly can fit atleast 30 people comfortably!

as far as sleeping I'll be camping, Brian & I are organizing a bus to leave Splat Tag a day or 2 before & drop off the morning or day after the game, other than that people wanting hotels or such will have to organize that themselves, maybe a few people that want a hotel can be organizers of that for others, also factor in the bus driver is going to be playing also & will be camping & making unknown & undertermined as of now trips to town (Miami,Oklahoma)

It's quite a while until the next D-Day, but i've wanted to go to this event for the past few years. Too soon for me to commit 100%, but by June i've usually accrued a fair share of vacation days so it wouldn't be too hard for me to pull it off.

Like Brando said we talk a little today about this, and I have wanted to experience D-Day for a few years now, and think putting a MN/WI team together would be awesome. I cant 100% commit, but I'm 80% right now :)
I had a thought that we could wear our own team jerseys and have a type of arm band made to unify th MN/WI players, with a team name and logo for all the combined players from splat tag? any thoughts on that idea?
I would like to experience D-Day from the perspective of the allies, but it wouldn't be the end of the world if everyone voted Germans.

I would like to experience D-Day from the perspective of the allies, but it wouldn't be the end of the world if everyone voted Germans.
beret:)*Puts on recruiters hat*
If I may address this thought for a moment and describe the virtues of the 6th Fallschirmjagers.
On the field, we are a highly motivated, highly mobile, extremely heavy hitting strike force for the German Army. We play till we can't move anymore, striving to staying on the field until final horn blows. We always move forward, never retreat. We work as a team, always linking up on the field or in the DZs to go and wreck something else. Every member knows what our job is, there are no secrets among us. We play honorably and strive to embrace our opponents who share this belief.
Off the field...we're pretty much a bunch crazies, who loving having good clean (if not slightly bizarre) fun. This is our vacation after all! Everything from lounging around the campsite BSing, to playing with the CW in mini scenarios, to having a blast during the PRA, to demanding the Allies surrender the night before the game and then "attacking" their command staff with red lightsabers when they refused...we try to have as much fun as possible. For the 6th, it's more about comradeship than a just winning a paintball game. For us, if we have fun and are exhausted by day's end, then it doesn't matter who won (though winning is nice :) ).
*Takes off recruiter's hat* beret:)
In all honesty, you should have a good time in any unit you chose. While I'd obviously would prefer the group to go German, if you do chose to go Allied, might I suggest the 1st ID. I know the CO and XO of that group (both former members of 6th) and they would ensure that you enjoy your vacation down there.

I just read something that I liked.
We all have respective team jerseys and what not that we want to wear to represent on a team level. Any die hard member of any team would want to wear their "colors." I, for one, only require my members to represent in some form or fashion, no real uniform, per say. Most of us rock our Sandanas, or a team patch somewhere.
So, I think an ARMBAND would be perfect. The 101st use them, and I believe the 82nd use them as well at Dday. I think the 101st are black, and the 82nd are blue. Either way, rock some arm bands with Midwest Destroyers on 'em or something like that, and everyone will notice.
"oh ****, looks like "team name here" is with that group. Oh S--T! Looks like "team name here" is too."
I'm diggin the armband idea.

I LOVE the bus idea, that would be great! What day do you think you would drive down? The Thursday night game is a rush, so it would be great to make it down for that. Would the plan be to come back on Sunday then?
Also, I think the Midwest Marauders (or whatever name we choose) armband idea is great too (we'll just have to choose a color that looks distinct enough from the red and blue Allies/Axis bands that if players choose either side they can still wear them).
drills:)
If I may recruit for the Allies for a second too. I originally chose the British Airborne because my grandfather landed at Utah and eventually met up and fought alongside the British 6th Airborne in WWII. The Commonwealth Expeditionary Force (CEF) is literally unlike any other unit at D-Day. The unit fights up to seven times annually together (I'll be playing with them in Ontario and Utah at big games later this year) and features players from eight different countries (Great Britain, Ireland, Canada, Netherlands, Belgium, the US, Australia, and New Zealand).
Besides the freakin' awesome accents that abound all week, the organization of the unit is comparable to none. All 125+ members are ranked and the chain of command extends all the way down to fireteams of three. We have the full block of officers, complete with medals and an end-of-the week medals ceremony for the unit. The CEF even has a DFAC for the week, a hired group of chefs and cooks that prepare two meals daily (breakfast and dinner) and we eat each day together as a unit.
This year, the CEF became the first team to go undefeated in mini-scenarios (though we did get to fight alongside our German brothers in the 6th) and became the first team in D-Day history to hold the Colleville Church for the full two hour night game. So, on and off the field, the CEF is a great place to land if you want to experience the uniqueness of Oklahoma D-Day.drills:)

I'm thinking this is a great idea and I'll gladly wear one down there (even if I'm not in the area next year). I think using Purple and Green would probably be unique enough in terms of colors...can't think of any other group using that scheme.
(though we did get to fight alongside our German brothers in the 6th)
That was a fun game. You guys were a blast to play with (and against). We really need to to that for a couple of games next year...the 6th on your side for one game and you one our side for another...either way the opposition won't know what hit them!

Then you should probably plan for at least 4. Realistically 5-6 is a good minimum.
With a semi, I shoot about a case to a case and a half at GBG. I shoot about 2 cases at D-Day.
If you're with one of the roaming/moving units (6th, GJs, MEKs), that should be about normal.
If you're defending a beach in the morning, plan for even more. I burned half a case within the first hour of beach defense.

Last year, I bought 4 case for the whole week and ended up taking half of one home with me.
This year, I bought the same amount and as I only played one mini-scenario and spent most of Saturday morning in the bush doing recon, I brought home 2 3/4th cases!
Most of the people in the 6th went through an average of 2 cases during the big game this year. We usually didn't live long enough during our assualts to shoot much!

Storms are common during D-Day week. In fact, I have yet to go to one where there was not at least one big storm.
Last really bad one that actually was dangerous was probably 2007. 2008 and 2009 just had a day or two with a lot of rain and some lightning/thunder.
Orientation tent - morning after the 2007 "Hurricane" (what Dewayne called it over the speakers)

Key thing with tents down there is make sure they are well secured. The ground is very hard and rocky and most tent stakes won't even penetrate. Most people use 9-inch nail style stakes, but several people use bent re-bar and angle-iron posts as stakes. Also, the more guy-lines you can attach to a tent, the better...so if the wind does blow, your tent should at the very least not move from the site (saw that happen last year).
Another thing to keep in mind regarding sleeping arrangements, is it's very hot and humid down there. This year, the temp never dropped below 70 degrees at night, make for very uncomfortable sleeping for some people (such as myself). This year, I managed to get a hotel room down in Neosho for about 5 days and was very glad for it. Actually managed to take a hot shower and get a full night's sleep! I believe they had a major discount for the game as it only cost me about ~$55 a night for a double.

also was thinking if there are manybe 2 or 3 who whould rather do a hotel maybe we can all splt this cost of a room and gas there and I can take my van? just another thought. I should be able to handle 4 people and gear for 4 in my minivan.

Could anybody thats good with graphic design make this better?
Tell me what you guys want the armband/headwrap/cape/whatever to represent and I can make it happen. 3D/Graphic/Product design is what I do for a living.
I designed the GLC/MWA logos for Darrin for the GBG, it seems like "Midwest Alliance" kind of makes sense to represent down at D-Day and is a tie-in to our big game up here. Just throwin' it out there, what do you guys think?

Are tents generally safe? Severe weather sounds common down there and I wonder if a hotel would make more sense...
Pros and cons to camping versus hotel. Obviously, the price, free versus 25/night (assuming you would be splitting the room cost). What was mentioned above is true, it stays hot and humid at night and more often than not we get severe weather (2008, one of the not so bad years hit us with 70mph winds--rolled me over three times in our tent full of gear--and three inches of rain in two hours resulting in flash flooding), so you want to camp in gear that can stand up to the elements. But if opt for the safer hotel/motel, you do miss out on the nights talking about the day's adventures over a beer with your unit, some great times.
I'll be camping again next year and hoping for more of the good weather we experienced this year (and hoping it gets colder at night).

That wouldn't be to leave the GLC out in the cold or anything, just seems like if there are a bunch of players, from a bunch of teams, from the midwest then it is kind of a midwest alliance.
I'd vote for a custom shemagh (neck wrap), but it's probably too hot for this kinda game.

I'm going to have to side with MWA if we go that route.
They've won more total games since the game expanded past MN/WI to MWA/GLC.
And outside of our game, Wisconsin is considered part of the "Midwest." It will make more sense to outsiders than the "Great Lakes" will.
;)
A better option would be to draw up a new icon/name for this particular group going to D-Day, but find some means to tie it back to GBG.

As someone who has not played GBG before and therefore has no loyalties to one side or the other, I think a team name of "Midwest Alliance" would be more appropriate, considering that most of the players at Splat tag are from MN and western WI...more Midwest region than Great Lakes. MWA would make more sense in signifying to people down in OK where we're from.
As for what type of clothing this logo might be applied to, I think the armband that was originally suggested would be best. It's probably the easiest (and probably the cheapest) method to be IDed on the field, as I'm sure players will be split amongst the various units / sides. A shemagh in sort of a scarf format wouldn't be too bad heat wise (if it's a proper one), but might not be all that visible, especially when you're on the field. I wouldn't want to use a headband / wrap as when the times when I'd most likely wear it (the parade, on the field), I already have headgear that are specific to my unit (beret) and play style (helmet, Boonie cap).

I designed the idea in my head in MSpaint. Being I dont have my laptop with all my design programs on it. Anyone want to design it better.Rock on. Its a concept of using Packer and Viking colors together. everyone in the whole USA knows what NFL teams have those colors. and being that WI/MN are the biggest rivals in NFL it will add a neet touch that the Midwest is Unite no matter what our diferences. "SPLAT TAG Unite" You'll find both Purple and Green Blood in our trenches. We could even wear our favorite team jerseys our team hats. Just a thought. You wont find anyone doen at D Day or CPX where we are from. Colors say it all...

main thing about shirts is that the refs have purple and green as shirt colors so anything with those colors as the majority is a no go...i think a patch would be the best instead of an armband simply because more people would wear them, also if a majority of the people going go to the same unit it wont matter what people are wearing since they will be together anyways. also there are already a few teams that go down with titles like "Midwest _______ " so a different more creative name may be needed to better differentiate.
You wont find anyone down at D Day or CPX where we are from.
MANY of the teams at both events do come from the area, rochester being one of the major local cities with teams that go down..in addition to a few from splat tag, south eastern wisconsin, milwaukee, south eastern minnesota and the dakotas
as for me...well thats a secret if im going or not

I think we need to look at this from a different angle.
It almost seems you guys want to be recognized a team, or group down there.
The way I see it is its a chance for us to all play Together for once. Instead of against each other. We dont need to all wear the same color shirts, or hats, or scarfs or whatever. We can just travel down together, Stage together, play together in the same unit, just BS and have a good time.. For those of us that are sponsored by Splat Tag. We could just sprout a Splat Tag T-Shirts or your Team jersey that you already have and what not. Slap a few Splat Tag stickers on your gear and call it good. :)

so here is the rough numbers on cost this may change but hopefully it will be a good change right now im hoping these numbers are high but you never know cause of gas prices. just talked with jeff and now its sounds like were going in style.
no cramped hot school bus were getting a 30 person charter bus with a/c yayayayay tow hitch and bottom storage. so enough of my talk here are the rough numbers this includes the cost of the bus, gas and driver.
10 people- $180-200 each
20 people- $90-100 each
25 people- $72-80 each
30 people- $60-67 each
what we need now is to get a exact or close to that number count of who is going on the bus with us and im just waiting to find out when we have to pay for the bus that will determine when dre and i need to collect from everyone. also we will have a packing list of what you will need for this trip. just a reminder this cost is only the transportation to and from the event does not include anything else. contact me if you need to know anything that i didnt cover. brian

Krustie "easier" isnt the right word unless being surrounded by approx 600 people in your 200 person unit is easy lol. both sides have their perks and disadvantages but no matter what youre going to have fun. however if you go american prepare to lose...i dont think the german machine can be stopped this year.

When I use the word "Easier" I mean the side that wins the most or has won the majority of the time. maybe if more people decided to try and make a diference and went the American side instead of going with the dominate side.(not at all saying thats why people choose the german side) this is the same reason wht WS switched to GLC in GBG18, WE saw AKA and the GLC get beat due to a stacked MWA.(due to alot of Wi team leaving because of the rain) It was awesome being on the winning side but we felt we wanted to make the experience better for all. We switched to GLC at GBG18 and a few other structured teams did also(You know who you are). under Rogue's command we kicked Butt and brought a win. Making a change. Just my thoughts. I know that I didn't command a win as GBG 19 General but my guys faught hard and it was actually closer than most people know.

I was fairly sure we were going, but right now I'm not sure if I can make it or not. Cash flow isn't quite what I expected this winter, and a few unforeseen expenses are adding to it.
As far as "easier" goes, well, the reality is the German team is significantly stacked against in terms of players. If you think that they're winning a lot because it's "easier" then I've got a surprise for you...
(Yes, both sides have pros and cons. But it's by no means "easier" to be a German)

raykowski- What day are you heading down?
One option, no matter what side or unit you choose, is that we could play several of the mini-scenarios as a team. I just got promoted to leadership down there and I think I could work it out to make sure that happens. Besides, a sense of togetherness is most easily achieved during the smaller scenarios. During Saturday's big game, with 2,000 or so teammates fighting against roughly the same, spread out over this year's expanded field of 775+ acres of play, after your first elimination, you may never see the group you started with for the rest of the day.

Thanks Krutsie, I would love to have WS with me in the Commonwealth Expeditionary Force (CEF) this June!!!!! My unit is the 6th Airborne Division (The Red Devils), 9th British Parachute Infantry.
Skibbo, thank you. The ranks for the Commonwealth vary a little from the US Officer hierarchy. I got promoted to Second Lieutenant, which sounds lame (I think its one of the lowest US commissioned officer ranks) but it means that I get to lead a Commonwealth Troop (what would be a US Platoon) of about 20-25 soldiers which should be GREAT. I just played year one, then commanded a three-man fire team my second year and then an eight-man squad last year. Tactically, 24 gives me three, three-man fire teams so it will really change the moment to moment battle strategies-I can hardly wait!
If anyone else wants to join me in the CEF, my unit will be fighting right alongside the Royal Winnipeg Rifles (RWR), who have some openings right now. The RWR is part of the 3rd Infantry - (The Iron Division) and is a rapid deployment breaching troop. The RWR work closely with tank insertions and will have this bad boy with them in numerous missions throughout the day.

I know most of you are planning on playing German, but any fence sitters out there might want to check out the D Day forum. There are a few registrations for sale on the Allied side! $50 each. IF you are interested, you MIGHT be able to get them switched over to the German side. Call the Bunker and talk to Peggy, she's the registration queen and will get you where you want to be IF it's possible to do so!

2. I live down by Valleyfair, if I met you at 35W somewhere along there, think you could just pick me up on your way down (so I don't have to drive all the way out to Hudson)?
3.I'm used to packing the **** out of my Honda Civic for the trip down, what kind of space should I limit my packing to for the bus ride down?

How did it go for everyone? Who ended up winning?
Great time!
Allies won.
A lot of rule problems. We held are beach for over two hours and never gave up Caen. With 20 minutes to game end the 716th start swarming down field lead by the Mayhem V.
The attendance was way down. I herd 2100 players.

true true, first time in history Caen didnt fall & we held Sword beach for twice as long as last year all with 1/2 the germans as last year, but this year we had 30 of us from Splat Tag which is equal to 100+ Commonwealth! lol
We were so aggressive Refs & Commonwealth commanders kept telling us we couldnt go here or there cause we would be chasing them maroon shirts back to Sword Lol
At one point the Commonwealth General told a Purple ref to expand the boundry 50 feet because they couldnt get around Darrin & C4 Lol
The other part of the field got hammered, rumor is LA Ironmen were allowed to be barricated in the top of the church with 40 cases & the Germans werent allowed to go up & get em, Also the allies were allowed many insertions behind our lines to get a advantage, never worked where Splat Tag was holding ground! We tore up the Airborne & Commonwealth (but according to Commonwealth we went against their new, low trained unit...Lol)

The commonwealth always make up excuses. And i dont think caen fell last year either though. With Ironmen the Geisterjagers wiped out everyone in that church last year in 30 mins..including Greg Hastings in the first 2 mins, probably leading to this change. After 3 years of the Germans winning I'm not supprised changes were made to try to even the scores. Allies by 150 is a lot closer than Germans winnning by like 1000 2 years ago which probably makes it more "fun"

EPIC. I didn't get to see much of the field or the game and I don't care, 716 had a job to do and that was to hold Caen, and we did it. Darrin knew a great choke point and we exploited it to the 9's for 3-4 hours. Dunno how many kills we had, but it was easily in the 50+ range. The Axis might have lost, but I can tell you, the Splattag crew put a hurt on our attackers and kept them out of that town all day long. We were constantly on the front of the front lines keeping them pinned at their re-insertions. Personally I have to say that the highlight of the game for me was constantly being on point holding off waves of attackers with just a handful of Splattag folks. Towards the end of the day I busted out the mini and 1500 rnds to roll out with the Splattag crew, but I got separated from the group so I missed the flying V on the NE side of Caen :(. The upside is that I was the point-man for about 100+ Germans holding the SE side of the town. Awesome feeling to sprint 50 yards to a prime spot behind a concrete bunker only to look back and see 100+ guys that got your back, we rocked it.

Playing style of the Maroon (BRITS) and the majority of our opponents was frustrating. Most people on the opposite team just stayed back and never made a push. And to be told we can't push up because there are imaginary rivers on roads and pink tape lines going up and down the field don't actually mean anything.. Ridiculous, as you all can imagine that doesn't suit Mayhem all that much... Most fun was the FLYING V where all 10 Mayhem guys and Carson (WB) and Jeremy (Militia), we LITERALLY made a Flying V and walked down a path and 50 to 100 guys maybe more just ran away. We all went through 8 or 9 pods in those last couple minutes. And also, just the player ability over all, Splat Tag players were FAR superior to most people we played with yesterday, Darrin you have put together a great group of players.
It seemed like it was way too much of a re-enactment then an actual paintball game..

this is one you guys will get a kick out of..
mayhem was standing around waiting for the next wave and they were bored so they started shooting a pod which scared a bunch of the 716th thinking they were under attack. One of the players yelled at them saying "damn speedballers with your superguns, why dont you go do something useful".... when asked what they could do the guy told them to go take 'the big gun' which was an emplacement right by the enemy respawn and fifty yards out from our line .... so Mayhem took off running into a well protected base similar to the size of warfare base at splat tag and took it in a few minutes.... the ref came over and told them that they couldnt be there and would have to leave because they could only go so far into the the beach head.... it shut the mouths of the rest of the defenders all day
superguns indeed....

Sounds like you guys were a force to be reckon! From what I've been hearing from rest of the 6th FJR, sounds like they were pretty pleased that you guys held the south. Sounds like they did some major damage to the AB units to the north around Pegasus and Colville. Well done!
BTW: Did one of the Spat Tag players have a colored mohawk? One of my friends in the 6th mentioned someone this description helping hold the line north Caen some point in the afternoon.

Well I had a blast from the massacre at the beach landing to the "super gun" base over through and all the way to the Mayhem V where we really cleaned house lol, and when I say massacre at the beach I mean massacre you would have to be there to believe it, I must of shot 20+ guys in the first ten minuets of the game lol.
One of the moments I will never forget is when I saw a good 10+ common Wealth guys led by a ref to just off from Caen about 25 feet infront of me... I was like " oooohhhh no you didn't" and as soon as the ref let them loose I lite every one of them up way hilarious they didn't know what hit them, I'm guessing it was a paratrooper drop and they thought they would swoop in on Caen from the side.
There was some frustrating moments in the middle of the day, but for the most part I had a great time. I would go back.
I had a great time playing with the mayhem guys and every one from splat tag.

I know a few wont go back or will want to try a different national game next year but if theres a core group who want to go next year I'm sure we could get maybe 50-70 guys to go next year which would allow for groups of 20 to break off at times & go demolish the other areas of the field! maybe we can just call our unit the SS Lol
I like Brandos name Splat Tag Army !
Next time we can get custom jerseys for who can afford them, but we could get a bunch made for $40-$60

I know the COs for Special Forces on the German Side if there's interest....and of course the 6th would always love to have more hard charging players!
Honestly, from what I've hearing, if there was a force of Spat Tag Teams in all the major German units, the allies would have no prayer! laughing:)

I have to agree with the comment about re-enactment. The Splattag crew out-matched the "regulars" at the game in a pretty big way (superguns). We held Caen all day, something that has never been done in the history of the game (superguns). Granted we were up against a sacrificial Commonwealth unit, but even still, it was a massacre, and we were way cooler under fire than our unit-mates (superguns). I'm not the most agg player, but I made 50 yard advances solo that 50+ other guys around me wouldn't dare even though we had the numerical advantage (pump). Going back next year with the ST crew in an SF unit appeals to me, but I think we'd be hard pressed for everybody to get the extra days off work to get down there early for the physical training test or whatever it is, even though i'm all down for being in tip top shape by next year's game. Cool aspect of the event, but kind of unrealistic to expect people to come down early to be in an elite unit.
Overall I really enjoyed the game, the travel, and just plain hanging out with ST people, props to Brian and the ST folks that made this thing happen! If Juice wants to get busy on a jersey design I can help get it production-ready with my Adobe-Fu.

To answer your question about early "training", in the 6th FJR, the only reason we like players to get there a little earlier (I think Wednesday is typically preferred) is to merge the variety of players we get into a single unit. We realize that this game is about having fun and while we may do have a couple of teamwork trainings during the week, we don't require player to attend...no mandatory PT either! It's expected that you arrive at the game in shape and ready to go. As for the obstacle course, the 6th doesn't run the course with the rest of the SF units. Instead we do something called the Parachute Readiness Assessment...which is very loosely based on the course the real Paratroopers go through. Done on Friday Morning, it the first time the players are divided into their Battalions and we do the course together as a team...often with very hilarious antics in the process. It's not a test of your physical prowess, but a really our way of showing respect to the real paratroopers.
Anyone can feel free to PM me if they have any questions.

Good stuff to know Hydrohawk, basically it would come down to whether or not could get down there for Friday morning. I know that because we waiting to leave until Thursday night to leave we were able to get more people to go, but we did get there later Friday morning. I get the sense that the crew this year wanted to cause more trouble than we were allowed per the on-the-spot rules by the refs and our town borders, I guess there's nothing stopping us from joining a unit and then going off to do whatever we want...

You'd be surprised how many times we've ended up "collecting" people when we're farming in the DZs. Every year there's been at least a handful of new recruits who ended up rolling with us after a reinsertion and stuck with us the rest of the day!

A couple things, first, the final score was 2142 to 1933, which was a 209-point victory for the Allies. Regarding changes, no changes were actually made this year regarding substantive rules, the Allied forces just showed up with more tanks and a better strategy—win the North. Thirdly, Caen fell last year just after 3:30 (I was there), so this was the first year I can ever remember the Germans holding the city all day long. (Huge accomplishment, so hats off to the MN boys in ranks who made that happen).
