Yeah, the rain today made getting back in after lunch tough, but once you got back in and wet, it was great! Thanks Darrin for a fun day of paintball and for putting together such an awesome prize giveaway at the end. While I will still hope for better weather next year, I got a kick out of 8' muddy bunker slides, can't say I have done that before.

Did anyone get any pictures?

I like that different weekend idea :) lol It was still a great time!!! We took over the red base that was fun! Wish we could of stayed longer though!

I can still hear the screams of those that fell before the quad... :character0051:
Funny how we'd blitz into an area, kill everything that moved and take the towers, I'd run out of ammo and go back for more and come back and blue team has everything overrun again  Alliance infantry needs some staying power next year.

What arrogance, Komodo.
You need to bring more gas next year.....

Edgar
06-06-2010, 11:51 AM
You had enough gas to go back for ammo, but not enough to drive back to tank insert after you were killed....funny how that works?

I seem to remember someone crying when thay poped out the top of the tank to shoot a law and thay got shot!

Komodo

We didn't run out of gas we ran out of ammo ha. Six cases used by half time gets heavy on the wallet. Well worth the memories and screams though tongue:)

06-06-2010, 11:54 AM
And ask the refs dude I went ALL THE WAY back to HQ and it took like an hour. Don't get upset just because you guys were afraid of the tank :)
I understand its frightening
And I seem to remember seeing lots of Green Mild Bunch jerseys walking to the dead box after each charge :D You might have the crying confused with that of your team mates :D

You know what else was great? Once we had a tank as well, you guys never really did much besides fall back to your reinsertion. Without being the only tank out there, there was very little damage you could do. When it comes right down to it...The Alliance relied on your tank to get the job done. But it obviosly wasn't a match for the GLC AND Lil' Reb.

Good luck next year Komodo.

Umm actually I shot it out three times and it fell all the way back to your main base and I never saw it again till we were loaded up and ready to leave...the rain mustve made it hard for you guys to see :D Lil Reb never got a shot off on us.
And how many times did we take urban and tower field from you almost single handed? Like 6? Hmm...I'd say that's pretty effective tongue:)

Brutis

1. Your tank started the game midfield.
2. You never left midfield when you were eliminated.
Per the rules: If a TANK is hit by a Rocket three time they can only reinsert by going back to their A Insertion.
Hard to claim how you crushed when you were not playing by the rules from the start.
Darrin is well aware of these infractions.
I don't care how long it takes you return to your correct insertion,
If you dont have the fuel to do so, there's your trailer.

Komodo
06-06-2010, 12:10 PM
Wow you guys you know how long it took even the head refs to figure out what the rules were? We went all the way back the ONE time you eliminated us three times and we inserted midfield last year in the same spot and no one had their panties in a bundle. Darrin and our ref allowed us to insert where we did the entire day so ask him.
If our bringing a tank that everyone is so intimidated by results in the creation of such rediculous, anal, and inhibiting rules then we simply won't bring it back next year. We did what our refs instructed us to do all day so yes we did "crush" and followed the rules we were given.
We thought bringing a tank would help promote this game and Darrin's field as a whole but if all the arm chair computer warriors are going to log on and quote conjured up rules at me because they got sprayed a little then it won't come back.

And so it begins............

I for one enjoyed going toe to turret with the quad and keeping you busy so Cutstep could get off his 3rd shot on you. Hopefully i didnt paint the entire front of the quad too much. There is always room for rule improvement and people knowing said rules. I for one had a GREAT TIME playing against everyone. Alot of stand up paintball by both sides. And as for us being the "Mild Bunch" we get eliminated because we lead from the front and try to motivate people to get moving and push forward. I see alot of barbs traded back and forth and I personally think it part of the game but in the end we are all PAINTBALLERS

And for the record i drove Lil Reb all the way back to my main insertion every time i took a third hit. I needed the rest from chasing your whole advance back to the sign that said "No Tanks past this point" and i give big props to Tanner from Xler8 he was a great tank hunter the whole second half!!!

I didn't have any problem with how you guys attacked me. You were my main targets cuz you guys know what youre doing. That was a fun tank infantry battle. I just have a problem with people trying to tell me I'm purposely breaking rules and that my breaking some rule was the only reason we did well.
And I never accused lil reb of any malice I actually had a blast jumping out of the tank and hunting you guys in the d day field.

Paintball TANKS.
Eliminated a Paintball TANKS will have 3 options to use for reinsertion. Return to their A Insertion and tag in, Turn off motor and wait 2 min, or use a Motor Pool Mechanic if one has been purchased.
TANKS can be eliminated by use of Portable Rocket Launchers if purchased by your team, and Landmines
If a TANK is hit by a Rocket three time they can only reinsert by going back to their A Insertion.
Use of standard paintball markers or grenades will not eliminate a tank.
TANKS are not allowed with in 50 feet of a Insertion area and can not fire at or in the direction of a insertion area if with in 150 feet.

But the whole day except the rain was KICK BUTT!!!!!!!

I think the point is Komodo. You started the tone.. Yes your Tank was very effective. you guys did a great job. you started throwing cocky remarks out on here. The point is. all the Alliance had this year was your tank. the structured teams were spread out. It wasn't GLC's fault every walk on went Alliance. as far as the game field. Yes you guys got to our General and shot him in the Butt. But at the same time Me and 2 walkon's were standing out front Captains Patches headquarters with your flag on the ground and touching the base. I will post a few stories I have later but I feel you started the tone Komodo. bragging and spouting ,even calling wild Bunch"Mild Bunch".If you want to here it from me I'll say. I remember saying a few times yesterday"that Damn Sentinals Tank" so yes you were causing havok but you didn't have the ground troups to keep the ground you took.

I had a fantastic time even though I stopped playing at lunch (and came to regret it a bit).

I made a pretty good sneak up to Yellow base and sniped at a couple of Dead Squad guys and other Alliance evildoers. There's nothing quite like the hollow thwack sound a paintball makes when it hits a mask in quiet woods. :)

It was great to fight alongside Wild Bunch for the first time in forever. The GLC had quite an aggressive force, and it was contagious.

My hat goes off to the guy who barrel tagged me, Nate and a bunch of other GLC players at the airfield around noon. Never has one guy with a USP pistol caused so much trouble!

How many gold bars were recovered? I kept forgetting to look for them. :o

Congrats to Rogue for the victory, and thanks to Patches for standing up for a hard (and often thankless!) job.

I remember being 20 feet from the reinsertion and getting lit up by QuadZilla. he was at that new building at the top of Urban. untill one of "Wild Bunches" with a "W" shot it with his Havok. Last year as a coalition member There was one point we had Urban and I called a Ciese fire so the GLC could reisert up the hill. At one point... Carson had to rile the troups to charge and in result we took urban back over."at one point Carson and I were the only ones to make it to the pickup alive.

The 3 shot rule was just added 2 days before the event.
So it was my fault for not personally brefing both Tanks on updates right before the game.

I also wanted to comment on the fair play yesterday. Out of all the GBGs I have played (started in 2006 but missed last year), this was the most honest group of players I have played against or with. Players actually walked all the way back to their reinsertion points, called hit when the paint broke and stopped firing when they heard "hit".

The game is immensely more fun with players of this caliber, so hats off to both sides. Kudos ladies and gents and thanks. brovo:)

Its all good Komodo. I didn't mean to come across that you were 20 ft from the insertion point. I got shot by the tank 20 feet from the reinsretion point. you were on top of the hill. And the WB guy with the law was over in urban and circled around because that was where you were at. and that was way after my getting lit up. but I just had to walk 30 ft and reinsert.
I have to stand and say I have alot of respect for the 17 guys I walked up behind and barrell tagged. Not one of you yelled out "he's blue" I made it all to the front. eliminating all of them ,about 8 Pointblank minute men, a few Chain Gang guys and some other players. yes I barrel tagged you all but you were honorable. and by the way,, I didn't retreat back. we followed you all the way back taking Charlie 1 and Charlie 2, and eventually walking right up to red base and droping your flag with 3 minutes left in the first half.

Well if you were there, you would have been able to see that Wild Bunch was leading the charge everytime.. They would come in and start screaming "Push up, towers out!" and stuff like that. And they were in the front so yea, they would get hit and out first. But they went straight back to reinsert and got right back into the battle and repeated the process 30 more times.

I remember one in general, you came along the right of the fort you took one out through the window, then held your position and I yelled. "entering" you kept the back room clear for me to enter.I walk into two guys standing 2 ft from you along the wall you were shooting through. they both surrendered. Sweet. I think this Win means alot more to me than anyone.recon:) After last years devistating loss, I had felt that the GLC had better get some help. So asking for some and getting it (and you Teams know who you are) plus a little last minute unexpected but appreciated Help from (you know who) giving us (and everyone knows who they are) And of course The New GLC General, we the Great Lakes Crusaders for GBGXVIII 2010 Won. Thank-You.:D

Okay now, Great job Rogue and Gramps for a long and successful day at Command, The GLC or Blue, does Thank-You for your hard work at the helm.
Another GBG in the rain and mud makes for a tuff day, but for those that stay til the end can truly understand, what this GBG year after year brings out in all of us, Just how much we love to play in it, no matter what the conditions.;)
I had a Great time as usual and did I mention that this was my 13th GBG in row?:p
Thanks for everything Darrin, your Game changes this year were another way that I see to keep us comming back Year after Year and for us to never get board of the same 'ol same 'ol.:)
My Tank comment is this, I think that by having these sometimes seemingly impossible opponants brings great things to our Game, for those of us on the ground that is. They give us the oppurtunity to sit back a minute to devise a plan and to work together as a Team to eliminate such a hostile threat.:scared0012:
I was in the feild three differant times trying to advance forward working against the MWA Tank and saw nothing wrong with how it was opererating it's foot hold. This year, last year a differant matter:p but what I did see was the GLC's ground crew working together as a Team and pushing past the tough threat which only made the towers seem like a Cake Walk. And once we started to operate as a Team there was no stopping us. So its Thanks to the Tanks that brings us all together to work together and destroy that what was stopping us.;)

Great job on your first Command role Capt. Patches. Yes I heard it said that you were a youngster but atleast you will be able to see things in a differant light from now on when it comes to trying to organize a large crowd and think quickly when things go wrong.;)
Which brings me to ask, does my advice to you make sence now? Let's just say it should have the first minute you heard WB is now GLC.
Great Game and hope to side with you guys next year.:)

As for Kylester, your very Welcome and I do wish I could've done more for you, I still owe you a Great deal more for all that you have given me, Great Pictures and Videos over the years in which I surely appreciate.;)/AKA

What a day and what an honor to command such great, stand up players. From the walk ons to the established teams, I saw nothing but committed play, even through the rain.

I have been very careful to tell everyone that WE won. I never really left the Great Lakes Crusader's base. Players came up to me all day long looking for assignments and left Gung-ho to accomplish them. I had a rough plan for the day and the blue armbands kept them pushed back for me.

Just before lunch, Gramps, a Wolf Pack-er Rolo, the Woodland Security Sniper Standard and I came under HEAVY fire from a group of 8-10 Midwest Alliance players that had run the tape to our base. Gramps and I got a lot of hits due to a rule mis-understanding about reinsertions for us and ramping for Red, but it was the name of the game. Red got me for the points and we have the welts to prove it. On the flip side, I never saw red after lunch, so we were doing something right.

Tanks- Thanks to Scotty and Wrecking Crew for driving and all the volunteers for gunner. There were calls for our tank for most of the morning, the main problem was that our tank was Darrin's and needed crew whereas the Sentinals' Quadzilla came staffed. I bought the tank as soon as I could and used it to the best of it's availabilty. I saw our tank back at our base a couple times for it to reinsert.

Teams - I need to thank the teams I had. My friends in the Minnesota Militia, thanks for your support and leadership I'm sure you displayed on the field. WILD BUNCH for always being up front, great communication and going where I need them. WOODLAND SECURITY for going all day and never stopping and Krutsie for the epic chain of barrel tags. PELICANS for bringing the game to red all day long. SAS - thanks for making the drive and giving me your all. WARFARE for never letting up. Mayhem, I got word to Brando just before the game and it sounds like you guys stuck to the field, thanks!

My MVP Kevin Moore for running that MASH unit all afternoon. I think that really had an effect on our outcome.

Gramps, my XO. Thanks for helping me out all day. You got the welts next to me and never once stopped going all out. You helped me with the 6 radios I had to cover, taped up my players so I could run the game, and kept a constant vigilance all afternoon. I was happy to have you up there and glad you got the sense to eventually coming in out of the rain.

Wicker - thanks for your short stint as the blue terminator!

Patches- You ran a great offensive and it was an honor to command forces against your team.

Brian - always on the end of my ref radio to answer my questions fairly and quickly!

My ref - Dude I'm sorry I forgot your name cuz I'm shite with them, but you rocked! You were fair and made sure to clearify all rules I needed and make sure the opposition we saw were following them too!

Darrin - your dedication to the game, the players, fair play and a good time produce an event everyone is proud to be a part of and I had the great honor to General one side. This game was my introduction to Splat Tag several years ago and continues to be a point to plan around in my year. I had a great time as always and look forward to next time.

I would love to see a spring Giant Big Game with perfect weather, but it is Wisconsin weather, isn't it. The mud made the exit interesting, but it is all part of the fun.

Thanks again to everybody for making my first command such a fun and victorious day! See you on the field!

Thanks to everyone who came out.
and thank you to both generals i tried to keep up with you guys as much as possible i know i messed a few things up but tried to fix them as fast as possible.
dillion: what can i say to you that i have not yet said, but i can say this when we first talked about you taking the job you were not sure you would be ready or good at this we had many long talks before you acepted and i would like to say you fought a great battle you took what you had learned from this past year in ROTC and stepped up to command a great group of men and women you may not have won this battle but i hope you have learned alot and take this as a learning tool for your future endevors in life.
cograt capt. patches the youngest general ever for a GBG.
Rogue: i also can not thank you enough for stepping up and taking on this huge challange you ran a great game and for putting up with me not getting things to you faster i was always on the radio with deadeye finding out how far he was with things for you they made have taken more time to get to you than both of us wanted but we made it through the day.
it was great working for you and patches you both were very understanding with me the whole day.
being incharge of 150% more things this year and having people calling me all day on all 5 of my radios it made it hard on me there was many times i would be talking to someone diffrent on all 5 at onetime trying to keep all that straight my mind is still rolling.

deadeye: you were a great asset to have as my runner this year no matter the task you would not quit untill you had finished it you went above and beyond what anyone could ask for and you showed that to me sevreal times i dont know tomany others that would have ran as fast as they could to get things out on the field and to the generals. and i cant wait for the opp to work with you again
i have to say thanks darrin for getting us private radios for me to deal directly with both generals with no interferance.
thanks for all the honest play i saw and heard.
as for the tanks even though i know this subject has been stoped i personaly meet with the tank crew and they used the rules that i had set four them and if anyone wants to complain about it they can pm me with there comments.
also i would like to say how shocked i was when i heard that we had some players all the way from germany who have never played paintball before untill this game and how much fun they had we have now hooked a few more people in to this great game.

I also met three players who drove all the way down from various parts of Canada to come play which is, I think, a tribute to the great system that the players, refs like Raykowski, and Darrin and organizers have helped create.

What I tought was cool. early in the day red had the towers. I got the privelage to walk with Brando up the hill under fire just walking in the open yelling advance. get moving, get those guys. It was cool to see everyone react and attack. I never used my LAW but those Havoks Ravenwood,Cutstep and Edgar have are the bomb. cant believe how accurate they are.

GREAT DAY OF PAINTBALL GUYS! AND GALS!

Congratulation rogue and the GLC army, what a fight.

I can't express enough how honored I am to have had the privilege of commanding as General of the Midwest Alliance during THE Giant Big Game 18. It is a role that I have always had tremendous respect for. Before this past May, I could never have imagined myself as one of the two generals during the gbg. I remember my first GBG in 2004. It was my very first scenario game, heck it was my first game over 30 players. This has been the one thing i look forward to most for the past 6 years, and now i have come this far. I knew one day i wanted to command one of the great teams in battle but i did not know it would be this soon!

It was a very difficult and stressful task, like AKA had warned me, but also very rewarding. I used much of his guidance, along with a few other past generals. My teammates, and other MWA players/teams helped me out immensely.

AKA, i thought of what you had said the minute i heard Wild Bunch had been switched. I had talked to some of the players almost 2 hours about game planning lol! But the game needed to stay fair, MWA had a large majority of the walkon players/teams.

It was tough watching all the players coming back to the tent out of breath from hard battles, i wanted to join them, but new i had to stay back at base and order weapons and give directions to troops.

Gongrats krutsie on your nice set of barrel tag kills, 17 at once? and then making your way to our base even tho my players were searching for you lol and mayhem too, in their cute garbage bag outfits, which is a good idea, im surprised i didnt see more of those. Good job, and Krutsie it was nice to sit and talk with you finally. As well as many other players I had the privilege to meet, much of dead squad, MN gophers, Wild Bunch players, Mondo, Bunker Busters, and a whole lot more!

Im gonna give a huge thanks to the refs that day, it sucks having to sit there in the rain especially when nothing around you is going on. And many of the refs were very informative, although with a game of that magnitude its hard to get all the refs to know EVERYTHING.

players - wow. a huge applaud to all those dedicated ballers who are tough enough to play throught the rain, thank you MWA players for your support through the day. I heard of a lot of stand up play throughout the day. Very few problems with cheating and many good things said.

Darrin and Brian and splat tag staff: you guys put so much into this game, i love seeing it grow year after year! I am proud to have been a part of such an epic series of games over the past...decade. you guys deserve a HUGE applaud. Brian i could tell you were super busy during the game. I cant believe how you were keeping up with all of my questions and talking to refs AND the other general all at once, literally. u must have two mouths or something haha. Thank you to my personal ref also, he was a fun guy who knew a lot about the game, although being younger than me. What is with all these youngins everywhere? beret:)

Thank you Point Blank Minutemen and my XO Special K for helping me out so much. You guys made me proud to be apart of the team. Thanks to Tanner and XLR8, who helped me out a lot with the law taking out the tank and helicopter., The MN Gophers also helped the us a lot, they completed a very difficult mission for us and helped me out throughout the game.

Don't let me forget all the other players who helped out during the day and with communications and the Mash Unit and trying to get us the big W. Nice job all of you!

It was a big game and im sure there were many more MWA heroic moves that i dont know about but thank you.

Sorry about the novel but there was just so much stuff I had to say!I learned a lot about the game and myself from this experience, and im glad i took the chance to be general. Thanks Splat tag for putting on yet another awesome Big Game.

A little Update: As all of you know I injured my ankle at gbg 18. The doctor thought it was a strain ,enough said. about 8 years ago I tried to hold a 800 lbs curtain wall from falling on someone and broke my right ankle. it healed fine but gave me pains when the weather was bad(like GBG 18 weather). anyways. I went out to play paintball with a few local kids last week and ran 15 ft and my ankle started hurting, That day I went to the doctor and said that something is wrong. I cant even run without my ankle acting up. He scheduled a MRI to check it out. I got the results back friday. due to my injury 8 years ago I have advances Arthritis, a Ganglian Sist and a broked bone fragment in my cartlage. I will find out this week if I need sergery. On a good note, the pain isn't in my head, the bad news. I'm moving to Iowa in two weeks and will be loosing my insurance. My doctor thinks we can get the sergery done before my insurance ends on Sept. 30th. but that will mean I'll be General at the GBG 19 with a big cast on my leg. yippie.

I'm sure Gramps has an extra cane. LOL. If he can get out and play with the pain he deals with on a daily basis. whats a little sour ankle when you compare. I think its more that I just want to get out there and run. I'll keep you posted on what the Doc says. those big boots they give you let you be mobile. look at Brando last year and his boot. It didn't slow him down a bit.

You probably have the same issue as me man. I can walk all day and you'd never guess my ankle hurts. then I bend down to my knees or run and my ankle hurts for the rest of the day. Its bearable and I can egnor the pain untill later. The doctors told me it was a sprain 4 years ago ,2years ago, and after gbg 18, after the MRI last week, it proved it wasn't just a sprain. If one doctor would have said....Hmmm maybe it isn't a sprain lets check with a MRI ..they might have been able to prevent Arthritis in that ankle. 4-6 years ago..
