Okay, so from time to time there comes a discussion or description about markers and upgrades. Almost all include a mention of polished or polishing internals. Without flaming me too bad, what exactly are we talking about? The hammer or the shell? How does one polish the internals?

Thanks.

Rouge,

There's no such thing as a dumb question (the first time)

Most of the polishing I've heard about, and done, is to Tippmann's, a lot of the internal working surfaces are cast and not very smooth. If done well, a good polish job will extend O Ring life and hopefully improve the performance of the marker.

Most of the polishing is done to areas that have moving parts like the where the bolts slide. Some people even polish the bolts. You can use very fine sandpaper or, like I did, use a brillo pad. You can get a very smooth surface with the Brillo method and when used with water the excess material gets washed away.

My son's and I have successfully polished 3 A-5's, 3 98's and a X7 with Brillo pads and I would not hesitate to try it again. Check out some of the other forums, specialty A5OG.net and search for polishing.

Hope this helps ...

Be very careful if using sand paper!!!!!!!!!!!

I suggest a brill-o pad and some elbow grease. Rinse thoroughly, and oil good.

Best free mod there is! lol

The other missing step is to use an aluminum polish like Mother's Aluminum polish and apply it to the sanded/brilloed areas. then polish away. This will give a mirror like finish and will give an even smoother surface for the action. The last time I did this I used a dremmel + polishing pad + mothers. Then oil it up...slicker than snot on a doorknob!

EDIT: wanted to clarify steps:
1) I sanded with 1000 grit then
2) Sanded with brillo + water then
3) Let dry then applied mothers then
4) let dry and hit it with a dremmel with polishing pad then
5) put it back together and oiled

Thank you very much. The term 'internals' alway left me wondering.

it might get you an extra 2-3 balls a sec if you lucky. my thing is is it worth the posible harm you could do to the gun for such a low gain???? quiet:)

Yes, it's worth it if you do it carefully and not over do it. I did it to increase O Ring life, not increase ROF.

I recommend the Brillo pad method and lube it well afterwards.
