Hello All,
I have a Silver 98 Custom and having major problems with it. I am
chopping every 4th ball and when I chrono the ball speed will drop off
huge after one ball. I have done a o-ring kit, put in a new power tube
but did not reoring the valve. I have a response trigger, cyclone
feeder system, flatline barrel, retractable butt stock. Its a non ACT
gun. Should I change over the internals to ACT so I can stop the
chopping? Should I get a new valve to stop the pressure issue?
I really appreciate any answer i can get.
Thanks,
Frogdog help:)

you could try polishing the internals, but i don't know how much it will help.

Every fourth ball?
Are you shooting fast when this is happening or is it just happening with a normal rate of fire?

Yep. I think it might be the valve. AKA is suggested rebuilding it. I get major ball speed fall off after a couple of rounds. With this I think it might not be supplying enough air pressure to the cyclone. What do you think?

I would try just calling Tippmann, they have amazing customer service and chances are they'll send you out a new part if they can diagnose whats wrong with it, even if its not in warranty
It sounds like the valve ( with the fps drop). if after replacing the valve if you still have cyclone problems check your cyclone internals and replace the piston O-ring..
( my 98 rt eats through cyclone internals).
as for the ACT, I wouldn't waist my money.

Yeah I am kinda stumped by this...
I was going to at first say that you have no eyes in your tippman and with the RT you are just running the risk of just chopping a ball in half but with you having the cylcone feed on it that rules out my first thoughts on it
If its a high rate of fire and its doing the drop off I would agree with Ish on the valve thing. I would call Tippman as well on this...
The only problem I had with my A-5 which was a long time ago. There used to be a piece of plastic (ratchet) that tripped the cyclone to spin and it was made of extremely chinsy plastic and after like 10,000 shots it would wear out and the cyclone would only feed every other shot.
LOL I haven't used a 98 in a long time but I forgotten how many new attachments they have come out for those things lol its amazing to see from what the 98 start out to be and what you can turn it into now...

Just out of curiosity, is the Cyclone stock (unmodified) or have you put an aftermarket paddles/ratchet kit in it? A few years back when I bought a Cyclone for my 98c, I noticed I was chopping a lot of paint. Turns out that the stock paddles on the Cyclone were not offset from the feed port...meaning that opening in the feeder matched up with the paddles. Bottom line, it was allowing more than one round in the chamber per cycle. Depending on how I was holding the gun at the time, I'd chop every 2nd or 3rd ball.
Anyway, the aftermarket kit I got twisted the ratchet/paddle assembly 45 degrees, so the next round was always held in place. Might be something worth looking at.

Are you using c02 or air? Also are you having this problem in cold weather or normal weather. You need to remember that you are using lots of air. I would consider an expansion chamber (for c02) or a regulator (for air) to stabilize out the system. Try rebuliding the valve should be the last resort. Also ACT is great. TechT has created a new Zero Kick Hammer check it out. http://www.techtpaintball.com/acthammer.html
