It's happening tomorrow at 1 o clock, check out tippmann's facebook page.
It's going to be a spool valve
It's going to be called the X7 phenom
I have also heard it is going to work like a E mag but that is not confirmed only the first two are.

Wow, Tippmann is just cranking out the guns in the past year. Did you see any pics or am I right in thinking that we won't be able to see anything until tommorrow?

I saw one pic on Tech pb but it was taken down seeing as nothing is supposed to be released till tomorrow, it was a cuttaway to the internals and yeah it really is a spool valve! I'm very intrested

I've been hearing it's kinda sorta like the E-Mag design. Able to go both mech, and mechanical...which by itself is friggin' awesome.
But a quiet Tippmann for once is awesome as well...lol

I've heard that when you run out of battery it switches to mech which would kick ***. I might have to buy this.

Probably gonna be pretty spendy though. Maybe $400 range?
Hmm...a spoolie that can be either electro or mech, I really want to go look at one when they are released.

Personally, I question it being both a true spool valve and being able to run electro or mech.
But I guess we'll all find out later today.
Hopefully, they either make better quality cyclone ratchets or they allow for standard hoppers.

Guys,
Assuming the photo on MCB/SO is correct, I don't think it's a spoolie...

Looks more like a poppet.

nope, not a poppet - it's a mag. The TPX has what is basically a mag valve - so I think it looks like Tippmann is putting it in a full sized gun. The spring on the front of the bolt means blow-forward - at least in part. So that means either it'll work like a mag (or emag) or somewhat like a Mini. Let's hope for the former.

Well, it does allow for switching to mech from electro, so it's not going to be like the mini.

I read somewhere that the cyclone has been "upgraded" and is now good up to 20bps. I still have my doubts unless the cyclone had been totally redesigned. $400 still seems like way to much when SP-1's (which have already taken the title for ultimate woodsball gun) or only $170.

Here is the intro vid for it on Tippmann.com

EDIT: And I was right on with my price guestimate:D $399 pre-order.

One thing the X7 does have on the SP-1 is how customizable its look is.
But otherwise yeah...the only other thing the SP-1 has going against it is that it's a Smart Parts marker;)

My guess is they're trying to compete with the BT TM7 (costs less now, but was first released at $400) instead of the SP1.
Though I have yet to see anything to suggest they have eyes or an anti-chop system.

they have the ACT in 98c's. i don't see why they wouldn't put it in here.

Totally different design.
The ACT wouldn't function in this platform.

Just another TM7 released a little late. i mean c mon TIPPMANN-SPOOL VALVE? Do they have any clue what there doing? And $400 ugh.
Yea the SP-1 IS the "woodsball" marker to own. it shoots under water, its durable as it gets, amazing trigger and regulator, good clampinng feedneck, and SP may not be well liked but they have past expereances of Fail guns so they know what to avoid.
im not gonna say dont buy it cuz i havent personaly tested it, im just throwing in my opinion.

Saw this video on Youtube before I came here today and saw this thread.

The narrator in teh video calls is a "new reveloutanary spool valve design." Just thought I would add that to the spool vs poppet vs mag discussion :)
Personally I have lost all hopes of Tippmann being able to produce something I would want to rush out and buy any more. Then again, I dont really need any more markers either. I have to many as is.
I am how ever curious to see how the switching from electro to mech thing works and how well it pans out.

Indeed - I really belong selling some markers (don't get any ideas - "really belong" doesn't mean I will :p )
I'm curious to see how it does - I really don't think the whole "electronic to mech" issue will matter much to most people, and I hope for their benefit that their quality control has improved. Nobody likes ratchets that break too often, removing you from the game until you can tear open the cyclone.
I watched the videos the Tippinators put out on it on youtube - offers more useful information (if for nothing else than watching it function) than the promo video.

Looks great & proberly works great but, continues the a5/x7 option of switching to full auto with a flip of a switch, which is easy for them cheaters.....basically a nightmare for woodsball refs & fields!
with that said, if its geared for woodsball, why the need for 20 BPS? dont know many fields allowing 20 BPS full auto! I suppose its like having a car that does 210mph, youll never do it, but its fun to say you can, if you wanted!
Great internals, especially with the new Cyclone feed, but wish they would have made it harder to switch back & forth from semi to full auto!

There are tournament locks on most "flip of a switch" markers.
The BT TM7 and TM15, for example, have a switch that disables all modes but semi, regardless of the position of the selector switch.

Yeah, but it still makes it easier to cheat with. Not that it's normally too difficult to switch mdes with other electronic markers, but even with the tourny lock, that's only going to help so much. The flip switches like that I think are just overall a bad idea

I have posted 20 times on this topic and always felt like I'm ranting so I delete it. Does the feature of this marker make it easy to cheat? You give a cheater a 40.00 Walmart marker and he's going to cheat. Its more of a mentality. A cheater will cheat no matter what he uses.

I concur. To paraphrase a great line; "To blame the marker for the cheating is like blaming the spoon for making Rosie O'Donnell fat."
The marker is merely the tool the cheater uses.

Sort of off topic, but related to the whole "selector switch" thing:
I usually play semi only regardless of rules (Correction: pump or semi, but you know what I meant).
However, I did use my TM7's selector switch at OK D-Day to use ramping at points when the volume fire became desirable. The capability was rather nice, and this is coming from someone who would normally never think of it.
(And yes, before it gets asked, ramping is field legal at D-Day)
My point is, I don't see selector-type switches as a bad thing. In an unrealistic world, I could hope someday "safe" turns them off, and a marker is turned on by just flipping the selector instead of a power button, then selector.
Krutsie got it - cheaters will cheat with whatever they have. This doesn't really make it any easier/harder to do.
Back to topic -- We'll just have to wait it out and see. I'm certainly not optimistic about the new tippmann (too many recent failings, price tag), but I'll give them the fair chance and see how they do before passing negative judgment.
I have two on order!! sniper:)
They will be out in mid November I think. This gun may be the main prize at each Jungle Rumble next summer.
On a off note. I just played last weekend at a game that allowed all mods including full-auto as long as it was capped at 15bps. I keep my gun at 12bps and on semi only and eliminated over 160 players in two days and won MVP.
Eazy switche have been out for a long time even on the X7! I say get over it, it's not going away.

I think the Phenom is probably one of the most "new" (i.e. radically different internals) full-size markers that Tippmann has come out with long time. My first marker was a 98c and the internal working of a Tippy really haven't changed in the more rescent models. Hopefully this is a good sign of the direction Tippann is headed.
Personally, I'll probably take a "wait and see" approach to buying one. I've been looking at the TM-15 as a possible new marker, but I'd like to see some comparisons between the two of them, as I can see them being similarly priced once you add things like a tailstock, longer barrel, (other items the TM-15 has that the Phenom doesn't).
As for the selector switch, I think it's a great idea and wish it was on more markers. My thought is that many electros do not have a safety (which can lead to accidents), and the markers that do have a safety, have the trigger push-button type, which I find extremely inconvenient (as I shoot left-handed).

I got to see this at CC Military today. It's pretty cool. Its basicly an X7 with a few new things.
