I was talking to a few people the other day about searching for something on the Internet and notice that a good number of people to not know some of the basics to using a search engine like Google and other.

Do a search with a common word like paintball and you will get over 3,000,000 results.

Phrase searches
Sometimes you'll only want results that include an exact phrase. In this case, simply put quotation marks around your search terms. "minnesota paintball fields"

Must Have word
If a common word is essential to getting the results you want, you can include it by putting a "+" sign in front of it. (Be sure to include a space before the "+" sign.): minnesota paintball +teams

Negative terms
If your search term has more than one meaning (bass, for example, could refer to fishing or music) you can focus your search by putting a minus sign ("-") in front of words related to the meaning you want to avoid: minnesota paintball fields -airball

Site Search
The word "site" followed by a colon enables you to restrict your search to a specific site: site: mnpig.com

Automatic "and" queries
By default, Google only returns pages that include all of your search terms. There is no need to include "and" between terms: indoor outdoor paintball fields

Some of these search term can be use with Ebay and other web site.

If you want to learn more check out the help area of your favorite search engine. Googles can be found here http://www.google.com/help/basics.html

If anyone would like to add more please feel free to do so.

I hope this helps a few people.
