My brother bought a Flatline for his A5 this year. I've heard they're really particular about paint. What paint works well?

Anything with a thicker shell generally, stay far away from high end, brittle tournament grade paint. Marbs are ok but there shell tends to be too thick. Elixer and Stinger are both excellent paints with shells that can withstand the brutality of a flatline but break on target and come at a good price. Blaze and Midevil are probably the best paints though for it period.

When I used to rock my flatty, I swore by Nelson's Anarchy paint. I have heard good things about Blaze and Midevil as well though

I shot Evil out of mine when I had it... generally, anything that's a small bore paint will work well.

A friend of mine, (and qualified airsmith) told me, when I was using a flatline, that the most important thing is to set your chrono speed no faster than 270 fps. Then nearly any paint I tried seemed to shoot just fine in my 98 with a flatline.

Ive used a flatline i think 3 different times in my life. Once was with hellfire which was a bad bad choice. Hellfire is amazing, but not out of a flatline. Then with evil and i had similar breaking problems. The 3rd time was with Stinger paint which shot really good out of it. I would just stick away from anything with a super thing shell or super thick.

I used to shoot Marbs out of my Flatline when I had it. Seemed to work pretty good, though I use Marbs every chance I get with everything I have.

Well, here is the thing with Marbs: They USED to be a great ball, back 8 years ago or w/e it was when paintballs where kind of ****** in general. Now though, with different brands of paint coming out all at a high quality, marbs have fallen behind. They have pretty round shell and thick fill but chances are you wont get a chance to see the fill. The shell is so thick you will bounce more people than break on them. I personally have gone and been bounced a numerous times by them. They need to drop the price on them to make them worth the money. IMO a good ball but overpriced.
Brands like elixer, stinger, rec sport, and blaze are all amazing paints for a great price. Midevil has a slightly thicker shell than evil but that helps it going through a flatline but the shell is not as thick as a marbs so it breaks a lot more often.
