help:)Anyone know about the rules for LAWs and what they can shoot? Where can I buy a nerf vortex for less then 5 bucks. This is assuming that there will be tanks at the hunt.

I built one for cheap. CC Military sells the ammo for 5.95 a rocket, pretty solid little guys, I also bought 3 more nerf pocket vortex rockets on ebay for $3 a pop. check the rules on the wild bunch site for LAWs, im still reading

LAW rockets (Nerf Launchers): We do not allow the use of "sabot" rounds (shotgun) or grenades as projectiles from launchers. You must use Nerf brand “Mini Vortex” or similar foam rockets. All launchers must be chronoed at less than 230fps. These devices are for hard targets only such as helicopters, tanks, buildings, bunkers, etc. A LAW hit on a structure will eliminate all players inside that structure. There is a 10 foot radius of "Splash damage" from the point of impact of a law hit. Any players caught within this circle will be "blown up" & unable to be healed by medics. Referees will not retrieve your law rounds for you. Note that the law does not destroy structures, only the demo charge can do this.

If I have any instock they are about 3 bucks. I'll have to see if I can get any by the Hunt.
Also you can use the F69 Foam Round instead of the nerfs.

I have some F69s, and I must say they are a pain to load and operate.

Nerfs are far better, aside from they can break while the F69s won't.

Family Tree dollar stores have the Nerfs. Thats where my team gets them... We are up to about 50 rounds now.. 1 doll hair VS 5 online..... Hmmm Its worth the drive to the locations.. ;)

I'd say its more the operator then the round.

The difference between the two is pretty big. The F69 (solid rocket far left) is 2.05" wide and is twice as heavy, it also hits with a good thump. The Nerf Pocket Vortex is exactly 2.00" wide, a lot lighter and better balanced. The main advantage of the F69 is that it fits perfectly inside 2" schedule 40 pipe and you can fit 2 in a 140rnd pod, The advantage of the Vortex is that it has a better center of gravity and can fly farther.

I like them both but I think that I will carry the F69 as the first loaded round in my LAW.

The only bad thing is that its really rubbery and looks like a flying b*** plug.... hs:)

Thanks for the help! I use a bike pump to compress air and then shoot a round. Takes more time but is cheap. Got any ideas on how much ppsi it would take to get to 230 fps?
I will check the Dollar store.

Gosh, Captain, I wish you would have asked me. Target stores have similar rockets in stock for a buck back in the toy section.

I would think that about 95psi would do it. Have you considered going with an HPA system? It would prob save you alot of time and pumping for a minimal cost.

I agree, But minimal cost isn't free.

if you have trouble with a hpa system try hooking it to a remote coil it makes life a lot easyr

The Family Dollar in Brooklyn Park (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=family+dollar+in+Brooklyn+Park,+MN&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=46.092115,79.101563&ie=UTF8&ll=45.093338,-93.344564&spn=0.040355,0.077248&z=14&iwloc=A) still has some Nerf rockets left (I bought all the orange ones). They're on the bottom shelf near the back of the store, and are around $3 apiece.

The Dollar Tree in Brooklyn Park (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=dollar+tree+in+Brooklyn+Park,+MN&sll=45.093338,-93.344564&sspn=0.040355,0.077248&ie=UTF8&ll=45.098488,-93.367481&spn=0.077794,0.154495&z=13&iwloc=A) didn't seem to have any, but I didn't have much time.

The fins on these Nerfs are a pretty tight fit in a 2" PVC barrel. Do you guys trim the fins for lower friction?

Krutsie
04-30-2009, 11:57 AM
yes. a little bit. I ussually leave the fins alone.the darn thing shoots them a football field anyways. but jamie does shave his off a bit.
I was wondering if we could put red string our something on the fin to make them things easier to find. any ideas?

Lol. I was actually trying to come up with a device that attached to the launcher itself....I know it would take a BUTTLOAD of fish line, but a pretty good idea. The red ribbon is an idea worth looking at tho

maybe paint the fins blaze orange? or maybe a small red streamer but with that you would get more drag on the round

i agree with Wrecking paint the fins a bright color and write your team name on them in a sharpie, that way if u loose them people know who to give them too :D

the only questions is how to attach the ribbon to the back of the rocket safely

Hmmm... Might be able to hot glue or super glue the ribbion to the rocket should hold up to the force of being shot out of the cannon
Jon sniper:)
