The tanks best beware during the hunt, there is a new toy in town :D
It took half an hour and about $50 in parts to build, I hope that it doesnt shoot more than 280fps, works perfect though, I'm really excited! :)
Edit: Created a Pocket L.A.W. :D

I added another picture, it works great, looks to be well under 200fps.
I'm debating having the wife hit me with it to see how much kick it has. fear:)

Looks to be PVC pipe, a pressure washer handle and.. some other random tidbits? Out of curiosity, how is the air regulated from your power source?
CrazyDave
03-31-2009, 08:49 PM
It has a remote nipple on it with a 3.5mm opening(smallest point). The air is regulated at 800psi from the tank and the handle is a 2300psi 6gpm.
im trying to figure out how to calculate the velocity of the rocket. 800 psi of compressed air through a 3.5mm opening and filling a cylinder that is 3" wide and 9" long with a 2" wide 12" long barrel. hs:)

That's impressive man, nice work. Not sure how you'd get more velocity, maybe try a smaller diameter barrel, like 1.75" so that rocket is really in there tight, might allow more pressure build-up. Dunno that the size of the chamber really matters because once there's so many PSI in there the rocket is gonna launch right?

Jamie our sniper built this law for under 50.00 also.

Its a little overkill but it has steele over the expansion chamber. and is set to 110 psi. the thing shoots footballs at liest a football field if not more. thats why I keep loosing footballs.
I put it inside a hidration pach and it fits snuggly to your back.
http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg296/woodlandsecurity/squadGL001.jpg
it is run by a remote line which also fits in he hidration pack.
http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg296/woodlandsecurity/squadGL003.jpg
I used clip shut pod lid on the end as a barrel stop to prevent misfire issues.

I will be making the firing trigger accessable while in the pack. this could even be fired off my back if allowed. I get on my hands and knees tuck my head and second man says up or down then fires. never done this but would if darrin says its ok.

Nice, I like it. I was thinking about building an even smaller version, im worried that the smaller chamber behind the projectile would give it to much force though. I was also thinking about making a self refilling version too, I have a spare 12v 150psi compressor that is smaller than a pack of smokes. Im gonna play with this one for awhile though, its safe and it works. :)

is that handle pressure rated? be careful with that, it can be trouble what with all flying shards plasitc and metal and all ;)

The handle looks like a pressure washer valve, and those things are rated to crazy high pressures. At least, the ones I've seen at Northern Tool are.

I have built a new faster and more compact version
http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm309/hotrodlincolnx/pocketlaw.jpg
this thing is sick, its also fits in my pod pack, so now I can rain death on bunkers and tanks while carrying my phantom.
Its a good thing that im working for AKA during the hunt! My suggestion to the Mercs.... fan out, ill be looking for the ones that dont ;)

Very nice pocket L.A.W. Hmmm.... let's see.... a $25 pressure washer grip, some fittings and some PVC.... yeah, I think I can guarantee that the Mercs will have about a dozen of those at The Hunt.
Thanks for the idea!

Hey Dave, love the launcher but I do have one concern. I can see from the pic that you used cellular core PVC for your launcher. I would highly recomend you use standard SCH40 insted of the cellular core. I know it makes it lighter but that is because it is not solid PVC but rather PVC wraped foam. That stuff cracks very easily and I think it would be a real safety concern. I'm only mentioning this because I'm a blumber and I've seen this stuff crack on several occasions, sometimes just dropping it can cause damage.
I really do love the launcher I just wasn't sure if you were aware of this. I'd hate to see someone loose an eye or worse.

Just make sure you use the right kind of PVC for it

no part of the new launcher will see high pressures except the handle, the cellular core pvc is just directing the rocket.

I understand that, but it stil requires pressure to launch the rocket and that pressure builds behind the projectile thus launching it. 2" SCH40 PVC only has a maximum pressure rating of 166psi and I honestly don't know what cellular core is rated for? I'm guessing significantly less.
I know it's not very likely but if something were to jam the rocket and keep it from firing you would be holding a plastic hand grenade. I'm only expressing concern because I have heard of PVC launchers exploding in recent years and in at least one instance some pretty serious injuries. The sad thing is it's not always the owner who gets hurt.
I'm not trying to pick on you I'm just concerned.

I fully understand what you are trying to say, I also understand what cellular core PVC is vs standard Schedule 40. I honestly believe that the small version of the launcher will not pose a problem, the barrel is only 9" long and is "press" fit to the end cap. If the internal pressure was to exceed the rated 230psi, i would expect the barrel to fall off in front of me. You have to also understand that 28 cubic inches of air at 230psi is ALOT of pressure, you would know something was wrong right away.
What scares me are the folks that build the lawn sprinkler valve launchers using cellular core pvc. a pressure chamber equal to the length of the barrel at 150+ psi is a ticking time bomb, I do not like these designs.
When it come to any form of airsmithing in our sport, use common sense. If it doesnt look safe, it probably isnt. If any one of my projects ever gave me the slightest concern, i would scrap it immediately. The safety of myself and others is the most important thing to consider in our sport.

Jamie built two of them. mine which is the bigger version then his.
http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg296/woodlandsecurity/trip002.jpg
Mine is a little bigger and heavier but i put it in a hydration pack and I can't even feel it on my bak. plus ,its set up to launch right off my back. all i do is get on my hands and knees and a second guy can fire it telling me, (up or down) its pretty slick.

Yeah, could some one get a list together, I think it would be awesome to build a L.A.W. just for the heck of it, be sides it might help with my kill count (and my kill count could use some help:character0051:) sniper:)

if I recall correctly Dave was having problems getting it over 200 fps... something like 175... the flowrate wasnt high enough with the spray nozzle....

Id be willing to let this go for about $60 if anyone is inerested, need more cash for supercharger parts, lemme know snrist@yahoo.com
