General for the Midwest Alliance is Thalion (Tim).
Tim is the captain of the Sentinels paintball team.

General for the Great Lake Crusaders is AKA (Tim).
Tim runs the Pelican Brigade Paintball Club.

For both players this will be the first time being a General and both are very upstanding players.

** Now the time has arrived to pick a side and grab your trusty paintball gun so you can march off to battle with your fellow soldiers. In the trenches, and through the woods you will watch each other’s backs and defend your positions whatever the cost may be. For failure to do so is not an option…Victory awaits the bold and the daring. TO BATTLE!

Thank you Darrin, for the privilege to be a part of Splat Tag history and to try my hand at command.

Since it's announced... *releases new signature*

AKA, I'll make you a sig image like mine if you want (obviously, it'll be GLC based instead of Midwest Alliance based)

Thanks to MondoMor for the insignia I'm borrowing for now.

Thanks,

I sent an invite over to Brutis, but consider this a welcome invitation for Wild Bunch to join the Midwest Alliance again, only this time you guys get to be out in the field having fun shooting players.

First of all I would like to say Thanks to Darrin for putting on a GBG year after year, if it wasn't for GBGVI who knows where the PBPBC and I would be. It was my first Travel Game after I had lost my field to a Sale.
The excitement and treatment of that first Game had gotten me hooked on where I would want to bring my Club and spend our lives playing.:)
In the past i had turned down the opputunities to General a side in a GBG. For reasons of feeling that I am not the leader type, but am a good fighter in a good fight, instead. But after the invite from Wild Bunch believing in me to head up the *US* Coalition Forces in this years HFTC Charity Event, gave me the courage and the feeling that I may be wrong.300a:)
So enough about that I guess, so here I am a General of a side in a GBG from where I had got my Start at Splat-Tag, a Tim Vs. Tim so to Speak, in which I will say Perfect timing for you also Thalion, its about time you promoted yourself also, Congratulations!:scared0012:
Thank-you to all that wish us Luck in both our first attempts at this Great Honor! It will be a good time for all who attend, to see if Tim wins or the other Tim.
Thanks Darrin for pointing out to me that this may be tough to try and do two commands in two major events in one season for my first attempts at General. But I have the feeling that players that have been playing and attending all of these Games as much as I have, are helping to make the Commanding Job a little easier year after year. And with that I will say to them, Choose your sides and get ready for a Great Battle in the GBG XVI./AKA-General of the Great Lakes Crusaders.

Idk about that i think its going to be a tough battle and tim is going to have to make a lot of tough decisions to win. Ill bet you tim is going to lose ;)

Interestingly enough, it was also the GBG that also drew me towards Splat Tag. Back before the team days, I spent most of my time at some outlaw fields with friends in the northwest corner of the Cities (not to mention my one season on a tourney team based out of Princeton).

But then I had a friend (in the days before the team) that most of you know as Lonestar who reported that I absolutely had to go to this great game over in Wisconsin that he had been to.

I scouted the field once before the GBG, and then came. Lot of fun, and the Sentinels were officially formed around that time too.

Seems both of us came to Splat Tag for the GBG, and then discovered the best field in the area.

Great stories guys! I hear similar stories every now and then. thoses are what truly makes me happy.

The Giant Big Game is very special to me as well, I can remember back to when I first wanted to run a big game, a big game like the ones I use to play back in the 80's and early 90's.

I so wish I had pictures from the first GBG. Pictures of the Splat Tag Olympics and the poker chip GBG. So many memory. The fall GBG with the freezing rain, I will never do one in Oct again!

When I went from a player to a field owner in 1996 everyone kept telling me that woodsball was dead or dieing. All of the paintball compaies were pushing speedball, some even cut their open games from twice a week to once a week. Almost no one was running big games any more or players had to drive forever to find one.

I had one goal from the beginning, I have always known if I could get people to play paintball the way I did when I first started, true hide and seek, that people would get the bug for paintball just like i did. Now I know many players did not first play at my field and most likely got the bug before playing at my field but it is great when I see players getting the bug or When I see players that have left the game many years ago come back because of the way we run our games now. It's also great to see so many Paintball company starting up and running scenario games and big games. Woodsball will never die!

Look at us now.

Splat Tag now has around 10,000 players every year and our normal Open Game can have 100 to 150 players. I run our games the way they were when I first got addicted to them back over 20 years ago. Yes I played speedball, yes I played national tournament series for years, even play paintball on ESPN. But I never had as much fun as when I am on a course big enough to hid and stalk another player. :)

All of our games, big or small are set up to see who is the better player / team. Not to see who can afford the faster gun and shot the most paint.

Large courses and enough time for players to move at their pace. Thats what paintball needs now more then ever.

Sorry I went way out there on this one.

Darrin I think you hit the nail on the head, woodsball is what will stand the test of time. I definitely think its more fun, and a truer test of overall skill.

Looking forward to more great seasons from ya!

Love the passion you have to make sure we all enjoy it as much as you do!

Who's the best at what, which game format's the best, none of it matters to me - only thing that matters is where you're having the most fun, because that's the point of a hobby/sport/game.

I won't really go into the woodsball/speedball debate, but I will say I've had the most fun at Splat Tag, especially on the bigger courses.

Darrin that was really inspirational!

Believe it or not splat tag is really what got me into paintball haha.

I played a little bit of paintball before my first GBG but after I witnessed all the teams and crazy modded guns i didnt even knew existed i was hooked on GBG forever and i have only missed two since then (June 2004 was my first)

thanks again darrin. i didnt know you had such i history in paintball.

i will always be a true woodland baller recon:)

I salute the Tims, Darrin and the past generals that have made this bi-annual event memorable to all players. I wish that these two Tims conducted themselves with the utmost respect and leadership. I will as a faithful follower of my captin will be playing for him and my compatriots in this game of speed, intelligence, agility, and all out fun.

May the Best Tim win.

Are there going to be any players who are like second in command or anything? like backup generals?

Are there going to be any players who are like second in command or anything? like backup generals?

Any other command structure besides the generals is more or less chosen by the general in an unofficial capacity.

I know I will be drawing on many other players' knowledge and experience, but I will not be requiring any particular player to stay back as XO.

Also teams (like Wild Bunch, Warfare) can form squids and have a member be a direct contact with GBG leaders then use radios to get info out fast to troops.

haha right on smkiellor! another defector lol! go crusaders!!! (sadly i think he was mistaken :()

So it would be an unofficial ellection to second in command...just incase something would happen to the General sniper:) hehehe. jk, i know the gerenals must stay in the tent.

oh and i was wondering about communication relaying to the generals, will the generals only be using the large radios that have 100 channels or whatever? or will they have the regular two ways?

I myself am not looking at this Battle as a Border Battle, between two States but rather a Battle between two Countries. One with many laws in which those who live thier must follow, the other, a Beautiful Vacation Land in which I spend my Quiet times reflecting and while gazing at the stars from my Tent imagining myself running this Country one day. And on June 6th, 2009 I will get my chance. I will Protect this Country with every means that I can so again one day I can lay back Gaze at its beauty and Relax once more.:character0095:

A GBG is what the name says; A Giant Big Game. Where you don't have to worry about finding help on Commanding the field. I can remember times when Brutis was General and you would see him leading a Group off into Battle. And other times he would just show up during a Battle you were in just to see how things were going. And never once did I think or wonder who's running the show back at home, because I knew if he's here then things are just fine there.;)
So no I'm not to worried about recruiting a Second Officer as for now, because I know that, that area of the Game is pretty well covered. What I would like to see is some more Teams break from the land of laws and come over and Vacation with me!:)/AKA-General Great Lakes Crusaders/GBGXVI

Many thanks to Jim "MondoMor" for it.

As far as communications/radios goes, I am not going to publicly broadcast my plans for all to see - however the Midwest Alliance should never fear, I do have plans for keeping the field in communication with the command base.
